Of the choices offered, Cadillac is the easiest bolt in.

I'd go with the Olds engine. They are plentiful, Olds made them (in Lansing, Michigan) from 1949 through 1964. There are a ton of spare and aftermarket parts available. The power output - stock! - is up to 350 HP and 440 lb. ft. of torque.

Lots of dress up pcs available too m

I owned a '57 Mark back in 1977-82. The frame was rusty but the engine ran great.

I think you could use Ford Y block bellhousing /transmissions on the 368 /383 Mel's.

  6. previous thread I said rocket, the jimmy would be pretty rad though

@Moriarity I'm projecting an early winner in the Cadillac.

Junior Johnson (RIP) once said when the would get an old '39-'40 Ford the first thing they would do is look for a Cadillac hearse or ambulance and rip out the engine and put it into the Ford because he saw an adapter in a magazine to mat it to the stock transition.

    You never specified which hemi.
I've always been partial to the bigger small hemi engines. 330" & up Desoto and 315" & up Dodge.

This 392 Hemi has been one of the best, most dependable engines I have ever owned. Going on 13 years in my 55 Chevy this coming year. It is street driven, raced a 1/2 dozen times per year, and driven to and from the track. "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking". :)

  28. I like the Caddy , plenty of torque , sounds good and is lighter than the Olds . Caddy weighs a little more than a Chevy . My 37 was to heavy in the front with the Olds. with the Caddy it handled much better esp. in fast turns .

Is it just me? Even for a hypothetical, to make this decision I would need more information.
What type of hot rod are you building? What era? 40's, 50's, early 60's? Budget? Etc.
While I'm dreaming I may as well do it right.
