iv searched the threads but can’t find the actual answer.

Does anyone have the actual part number for the bronco rear drums that fit the F1 front brakes...or the actual year bronco rear drums?

    Thanks

Pete I think this may help...

@Rich B. Gets a nod here for explaining some details...this is a thread on the subject...

80 Bronco Rear Drums seems to be the ticket with F1 hubs...part numbers still looking...

I’m actually looking for F1 drums.

    The F100’s are different.

I think I’ll start buying the F100 brakes at swap meets when I see them now.

The Thread is about F100 but this was F1 related info related to your question...

You are correct Rich explains that...

    Quoted...

F-100 hubs with F-100 Front drums or F-1 hubs with old F-1 or new Bronco Rear drums work.

In the second post he further explains the differences...

Ask for an '80 Bronco rear drum. There is about 7/16" difference between F-1 and F-100 hubs.

The Bronco Rear Drums fit these
    1980-86 Ford F100/150
    1980-86 Bronco

Are there earlier F100 that we are confusing the newer drums with?

The reason this was mentioned in the thread was a fella mixed up the hubs and drums and they didn't cover the shoe...

That corresponds with the Raybestos drum I posted...this is a positive revelation...;)

  7. For the F100 drum I use 66 Bronco rear drums with 11 inch rear brakes. I have not yet used them but in my searching I bought a set of rear drums for an 84 bronco that look like they should work. No guarnetee, but they look like they should work. If that does not work out let me know I have a few sets of good original F1 drums I can hook you up with.

What I get from the information gleaned if you install the early F100 drums on the F1 Hub it won't cover the Shoe or essentially come up short whereas the Later 80 Bronco/F100 OR F1 Rear drums (84 is in the range covered) do fit correctly...

  9. That is correct, For years I would rebuild F100 front brakes and sell them as assemblies at swap meets, I always used the 66 Bronco drums on them, along with 65 shoes and hardware to make them self adjusting. and yes if you put those drums on F1 brakes they come up short. The bronco drums work great, I even have them on my 39.

I jumped to the bottom, we just went through this brake problem, F-100's are totally different from F-
We went through four of the 'correct Bronco drums". The only ones that work are F-1 Brakes and they are tough to find. We finally found brand new set at Early Ford in San Dimas CA
The F-1's are about one half inch deeper in the drum surface

I get confused here because it seems to be the Hub that determines the Correct Drum

It does seem that the early F100 (66) Drums and a second series of Drum starting in 1980 are different with fitments as shown below...

The later Drums that fit 80-86 Bronco and 80-86 F100 respectively, supposedly fit the F1 hub correctly, that Pete asked about...

    New
    1980-86 Bronco
    1980-86 Ford F100/150
    Brake Drum

Shoes springs adjusters and other inner parts are not what's the topic of Pete's Query...

The Later 80-86 Bronco Rear drum apparently do fit F1 Hub correctly as well as Rich b alluded in the link I posted.

  14. This is how Randy Nash (Deuce Roadster) did the brakes on his '32 roadster, I followed his advice and did the same on my '32 pickup. HRP

Sadly all the accompanying photobucket images are missing.

Lots of traditional rodders use the F100 brakes on early Ford spindles (1937 to 1948). Here's HOW I DO IT. I am sure there are other ways. [IMG]

I use 1953 to 1956 F100 hubs, backing plates and drums. They have the advantage of self-energize......or they help apply themselves. They are 11 inches in diameter and 2 inches wide ( so early finned Buick aluminum drums...will not work they are 12 inches in diameter ).

The early Ford (37 to 48) hubs and the F100 (53 to 56) share the same outer wheel bearings and cups. Bearing # 09067 and cup # 09195 are the numbers. No adaptating needed here.

You need # 14116 inner bearing to adapt the F100 hub to the early Ford spindle . The inner bearing cup (# 14276) works..as is. I always replace them NEW to prevent problems. You will need Victor seal #49195.

Often times, a very small amout of grinding is required on the top of the spindle and the rear of the wheel cylinder where there is interferance on the 37 - 41 spindles. I have never had to grind a 42 to 48 spindle.

When parts hunting, I will buy 66 F100 brake shoes and hardware. They are self-adjusting. The earlier ones are not. 1953 to 1966 F100 brake drums interchange. I buy them new but good used is OK (but hard to find here in the Southland). I only use 53 to 56 backing plates. They are easy to come by (all the Mustang II changeover guys will give you the JUNK they do not want [IMG] [IMG])

Some rodders say that they have had to slightly grind the inner wheel bearing so that it does not interfere fit with the spindle. This may be true.....but I have never had to do this. I use TimKen bearings ALWAYS......

Also....by the way......bearing and race numbers are standardized. The numbers I gave for the cups and bearings will interchange....TimKen, Koyo, NAPA, Bower/BCA......all will fit. Seals are not standardized...... [IMG]

    Heres mine....on the 32......

I like the F100 brake swap because it improves the brakes, they have the 5 on 5.5 early wheel pattern and it's old timey traditional. I realize that disc are better but this changeover was HIGH TECH back when I got the roadster...over 25 years ago. [IMG]

Typo I only searched out the drum that fits the F1 Hub...

I agree it's all important and since we are Jalopyizing a OEM setup there is Backing plates and internal components and they have to all work together...so perhaps this will be realized in future posts...

Yes the brake drum fits the hubs, but the drums have to have the proper depth to reach the backing plates, and the Bronco drums stop short by one half to three quarter of an inch, unless you know of a part number that has not been mentioned here, it would have saved me a ton of money.

Again I posted the link to @Rich B.'s post about just that the earlier drums are shallower where the 80-86 Bronco Rear Drums are Deeper as a sub to F1 Drums

Two of us posted parts sources with links...;)

Paging @Rich B., any chance you could chime in here...I pasted a couple of links to posts You made on page 1 regarding Drums and F1 hubs...

When you use F1 Hubs with 80-86 Bronco Rear Drums which Backing plates and Internal Brakes seal the deal? F1?

Pete is using F1 internals and I suspect Backing plates. He was looking For either F1 Drums or the Bronco equivalent which both myself and a fellow Hamber posted links to...80-86 Bronco Rear Drum

So are the F1 internals, Brake Shoes, Springs, Cylinders the only choice in this configuration of F1 Hub and F1 or 80-86 Bronco Rear Drum...

@Pete did not allude what spindle he is using...

RAYBESTOS 2677R would be the number for the drum that Stogy suggested and that is for a 2-1/2 inch shoe. If you have done enough brake jobs and especially on 70's and 80's Fords you understand that they quite often use different width shoes with the same width drum depending on the application.

FOR THE F100 BRAKES ONLY not relevant to the F-1 question.
66 Bronco rear 11 inch brakes had either 11x2 or 11x1-3/4 wide shoes according to the Rock Auto cheat sheet. RAYBESTOS 2611R Part number.
56 F100 only shows centric drums but their compatibility chart shows that their 11x2 drums do fit 66/75 Bronco
    FORD BRONCO 1966-1975
    FORD F-100 1953-1967
    FORD P-100 1965-1967
    Per rock auto.

I don't think it is, what I was referencing was a Bronco/F100 Rear Drum for an 80-86 Model to fit an F1 Hub...I posted a link and @brsturges referenced an Autozone part # that cross referenced with the one I posted...

My information was based on a post by @Rich B. In the links I also posted in my earlier Post above...

Here's my link in reference to the drums...

@Pete and anyone else interested, my apologies if this information I posted is incorrect as I don't like posting things that confuse and mislead...but let us know what the magic bullet is...;)

Same drum different source. I think I confused things posting the F100 stuff. Messed up with my own gripe there and that is posting something that isn't 100% relevant to the OP's question..
I went out and measured my 52 F-1 drum and from the back of the hub to the edge of he drum is 3-1/16 roughly with the tape I was using and a piece of lathe for a straight edge.

Flipping it over there is close to 5/8 difference between the wms and the edge of the drum. That might make them a bit more agreeable with 35 or earlier wires without spacers to get clearance from the drums. That is also why the deeper drum is needed to take up that drop when using the flatter face late drums. IMG_8900.JPG

Another option for brake drums might be jeep drums. I already had 4 drums that came off a 1973 cj5 frame I bought for another ot project. I haven't been able to cross match the part #. IMG_1002.JPG IMG_0999.JPG IMG_1001.JPG

Awesome info guys, I appreciate all the pics, part numbers and ideas.

I did however pop on the FORDBARN and found some info.

    CENTRIC P/N 122.65022

    ADVANCED AUTO PARTS # YH140479

I just got a pair, installed them on my F1 (not F100) hubs and they fit great. They are 11” drums just like the OG F1.....the center hole is the exact same size as the F1.....No rubbing or strange noises. I also installed a ‘40 rim, no issues.

I used my Speed Perks rewards and paid $40—- per drum.

    Again, these fit F1 hubs,,,,,not F100

I would not use the Jeep Drum , the hub is not centering the drum , just the studs . I’m thinking this would be a bad driving experience down the road for you .

  29. Yes. The hubs have to be 53 to 56. 57 I believe uses different bearings, and the offset is different. I have a set of 58 f100 drum brakes but haven’t had a chance to explore what will interchange, aside from shoes and hardware internally that is. The shoes are the same part number between 48 to 66 as they are made to fit all the early F series trucks with or without auto adjusters

  30. On a side note if you are putting F1 / F100 brakes onto your early ford, and want to retain the use of the original banjo bolt for the hose fitting used from 39 to 48, you need to use Brake hoses for a 52 to 54 ford. They allow the use of the copper washer for the Banjo bolt, fit the F1/F100 wheel cylinder and still allow the use of the original 1/4 inch brake lines. Its Raybestos Part number BH16179. they are just the right length too when using a dropped axle.
