  1. Today’s mission is to move the wood burner and get this last bay done. There’s a lot of work in the gables.

After the new year I’ll start the final and finish work on the boiler room, boiler and radiant floor heat.

The wood/oil burner with heat exchanger and man oh man really really kicks out the heat. Last winter in the sub zero bitter cold I slapped and slammed it together with the goal of getting it going as fast as possible then I had every intention of finishing it off nice. The problem is you can’t work on it when it’s running and there’s a million other things more important when it’s warm and you don’t need it running.

I am at work now, but this morning I took delivery of this new to me project. If all pans out, this may get a build thread. Believe me it wont be what you're expecting.

  3. Did not get a lot done with the holiday coming up. Removed the track bar from the coups rear, installed new joints and polished the bar to a near mirror finish. Worked on my ladder bar plan a little. My hands are beat to hell from working on customers OT rotten junk. I have been replacing brake lines on cars and trucks for weeks. Everybody has rotted brake lines.

  7. Mostly chased after the ignition problems on a 305 chev engine. should of looked at the ignition long ago instead of blaming the carb and crappy corn gas. But I eventually got it fixed. I need to use that truck to go and cut up and haul home the Spartan trailer I bought a month ago. Its winter time and it has a good heater.

  8. Side boob, keep that one send me side boob

  10. Finished making a little bulkhead deal to run the brake lines from the 90 degree under-dash master out thru the firewall. Figured it would be easier; last couple cars like this were kinda of a hassle running the lines up thru the firewall then bending and flaring in place.

Another birthday, threw in the towel on the '29 Steelback project. Going to finish the two cars I have that don't need wiring. "Smart man knows his limitations" Bob

Still working on my '37 Chevy pickup rebuild.

December 23rd 2019 All the hinge leaf screws were small but stubborn. I was successful at getting the driver side upper hinge cab side screws out with manual impact driver but none of the others would bust loose. I also tried MAP gas, Kroil penetrating oil and air-powered impact wrench, all to no avail. I got the driver side lower hinge leaf door side screws loose but they had hex nuts inside the door and I had to take off the inner door panel to get at those. I finally got the door off with the upper hinge still on the door and the lower hinge still on the cab.

Went to the passenger side door and found more of the same despair. Then, palm slap to the forehead! I'm overthinking things again. I was doing things here the way I did when I took BillyBob's doors off but Billybob has concealed hinges. Deerslayer's doors have exterior hinges. All I have to do is drive the hinge pins out with a punch! I did and the passenger side door was off in five minutes instead of the hours long ordeal of the driver side door.

Damnation! Some days the bear gets you and some days, you iz the bear. Beer of the day was Southern Barrel Brewing Company's Damn Yankee IPA.

Cleaned the OT daily Throttle Body; it idled a bit rough.
Cleaned the shop, sorted some parts and found the Rochester single barrel carb that came with my Mustang 22 years ago. Needless to say it ran terribly.

  15. Made the S10 tailshaft housing fit my Ford WC 1999 T5 transmission.Wouldnt go on by 3/8 of an inch.I have the reverse brake tab on mine.I measured the housing depth on the Mustang so I knew how much to remove from the surface behind 5th gear which is a stepped ring area."milled" the area down with a Dremel to correct Mustang depth.Using the Dremel I cut a new notch to the left of 12 oclock on the outer edge of the ring for the brake tab to rest against.Test fit housing...….slide right on.

  16. The turn signals and brake lights on my wrecker worked in conjunction. the brake lights and turn signals both used the bright side of the bulbs. Today I cut the wires and separated those two functions. added 4 lights to my wrecker and two more to my light bar that I use on whatever is being towed. Ran a wire direct from the brake light switch to those extra lights bright side and wired the dim side of that bulb to the tail lights. I now have 4 tail lights and 4 brake lights on rear of the wrecker and two brake lights and tail lights on top of the headache rack. two rear turn signals on the truck and two turn signals on the light bar. And front turn signals and park lights on the wrecker.

  20. Not much done today; but did get the little brake line bulkhead deal from my earlier post mounted; worked out as planned (for a change) right next to the hole for the lighting wires.
Found another high quality Vintique product that won't work for us. Their door lock does not accommodate the angularity needed in the '33 door. Dug out my Drake lock when I got home, no comparison, it should work in the '33 easily.

Had a great time today unloading the 61 Olds with all 4 tires flat and brakes locked up! Didn't know that because the car was loaded with a forklift.

A little further along with my '37 Chevy teardown

December 24th 2019 While I was pondering the problems of clutch and brake pedal, and other obstructions blocking cab removal, I went to work on items that were relatively easy. The rear fenders gave me some trouble in the form of a few rusted bolts I had to grind off. Otherwise, the fenders and running boards came away easier than I expected. The running board supports are bolted in place, not riveted like BillyBob, so those "shin killers" will be removed too.

Climbed up and got the Clifford 3-2 manifold and carbs that set our early Land Speed records and set the carbs on the Howard. I’m looking at some work for progressive linkage and I’ll need some 5/16” flare fittings for the bowls. Took them off in 1975 and will never find them in all my storage. Still a ways to go but the Jimmy is starting to look like something that might run pretty good. Now I’ve to dig in my stash for the Nicson cast iron headers.

Got up at 3:30 am, at work by 4:45, loaded snow into waiting dump trucks till 11, stuffed those buggers till another flake wouldn't fit, 42 loads total. Not bad for a retired 65 year old, still got what it takes. Then, got a free breakfast out of it too. Gotta do it all again next friday, we got a dump of snow from hell, more snow in 24 hr than we get all winter, and still three more snow months to go. DSC07526.JPG DSC07532.JPG

Turned some 22 ga sheet metal in to scrap, practicing butt welding. Got better at it. Still not great.

    Made several of these prototypes:

The first several were pretty nasty looking. This one came out pretty good.
