Camper I built for my 1960 F-100 in 1973. Drove it from SLC to Mazatlan, Mexico. Spent all winter there and drove it to British Columbia in the spring, about 6000 miles total.

One good story - when I was leaving, headed toward Del Rio, Texas, I was driving in a line of traffic doing about 30mph. A cop was standing in a turn-out and he waved me over to stop, then wrote me a ticket for speeding in a school zone. When I asked 'where's the school' he pointed to a building across a field maybe 200 yards away. He told me I had to wait until Monday to see the judge (this was Friday afternoon), or I could pay him right there!

I've been back a couple of times since, but the closest I'll get again will be Old Town, San Diego.

  9. @mkebaird, that’s a pretty sweet camper you built. Look very well made!

Thanks, it was a lot of fun. It was well built but heavy. I added air shocks, helped a lot at 90#. No construction screws then, it was mostly just nailed together. Main framework had bolts.

Well... I guess I can add this distraction to the thread. We bought this from a friend down the road a few months ago. 1947 Kit Mfg. It needs a lot, but it is complete. It's had some weird things done to it during its life, but has a lot of rare features and is probably a pretty low production model. This was a bucket list item for us for camping with the kids. It will be awhile before we do a single thing to it, but I'm looking forward to it! I may have to strip the paint off first, though. Looks like a turd in the drive. HAHA!

Here's our 67 Fireball. It needed a lot more work than expected but it was a fun project. Still need to shoot the second exterior color but we've been using it. Tows fine behind my 52 GMC.

  23. We had planned to go camping Saturday morning so Friday afternoon I pulled the Shasta around to the front yard and awoke to a unpredictable snow, several years ago we went camping in the mountains and woke up freezing, this time we opted to just stay home. HRP

I saw one just like that at a mall... with a serving door on the side. It was a kiosk for juice drinks!
