Another great one gone from the days of "real stock car" racing RIP Junior

  4. The last American Hero, Bootlegger, Jailbird, NASCAR Champion, Hall of Fame member and a legitimate Moonshiner, he was a no nonsense man and was smart as a whip. HRP

Remember watching a documentary type thing he spoke in and I thought he was a great speaker/story teller partially because he spoke my language I guess, He struck me as a guy that would have been well respected in my part of the country even if it hadnt been for his fame;)

    Who'd he "pass" ?
The man died, simple as that.

Good guy, helped bring NASCAR along to where it is today.

  9. Sad news indeed. He was one of the great ones, a true mechanical genius. That slow Southern drawl hid a mind that was forever working, always thinking of ways to make a race car go faster. We've lost a legend.

He raced a number of different manufacturers cars but I’ll always remember him for shocking everybody at Daytona with a 165 mph lap in qualifying, driving a ‘63 427 Mystery Motor Impala.

The Last American Hero, for sure. They just don't make them like that any more.

Junior was one of the greatest. These drivers today couldn’t hold a candle to him or most of the drivers then. RIP Junior

Oh well...............we all get a turn too!
    He'll be missed. Cool guy.
My cousin watched him drive at Daytona one year. He said.........All the other cars would pass by wooo.wooo.wooo.wooo. Then Jr. would fly by Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhaaaaaaaaa!!!!"
If it didn't blow(which it usually did) he would win.
Wide open was all he knew.

  19. Here's a shot we can relate to. Ray Evernham did a show about him a couple of years ago. Junior showed Ray how to do a 180 on a narrow road.
He used to set up at the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, GA and sell his "corn likker". RIP.

  22. We all stand on the shoulders of others in this car hobby we enjoy.
Some guys, like Mr Johnson, seemed to be one of the few with their feet on the ground.
    Thanks and God speed.

  24. Race in Peace Mr. Johnson. Truly a one of a kind person. Just remember, every time it thunders down here, all of the Good Ole’ Boys up in Heaven are racing. Now I gotta go have a horn of Likker in His honor.

He used to come out and autograph bottles of his moonshine here where I live, which is just a few minutes from Wilkesboro.
