Thanks everybody for posting. I knew you'd come through. The HAMB is the best. Here is a couple more shots of mine for anyone interested. IMG_1619.jpg IMG_1618.jpg IMG_1622.jpg

  5. From Hemmings-

East Coast Hot Rodding legend, the late Mr. Fred Steele, founder of the Ty-Rods Car Club and former LA Roadsters member, purchased this car in 1949 to drive around the woods of Massachusetts. After reading an article about Jack Chrisman’s Chopped A sedan, Fred decided that’s what he needed to do to his Tudor. His Purple Pride Channeled Deuce roadster was well known and featured in the little pages in the mid 1950s. Him and a friend, Don Spinney, handled most of the work themselves. He decided to paint the Tudor the same color as the Purple Pride roadster. He mixed two Purples together, 1955 Ford and 54 De Soto Purples. The engine was out of a freshly wrecked 1957 Chevrolet. 283 185 HP. 1939 Lincoln Zephyr trans and a 1946 Columbia Overdrive that works perfectly. Fred chopped the sedan himself 5″. Frame is stock model A with a ’32 crossmember, dropped ’32 Axle, ’46 Ford brakes, F-100 steering box and column. Stock gas tank and fuel gauge. BLC headlights and dropped headlight bar. Chrome commercial running boards. Fred drove the A from MA. to Tijuana in September of 1961 for upholstery. He stopped in Indy for the NHRA Nationals, I have the pit passes. It also comes with the written upholstery shop estimate, receipt, which totaled $107, and the shop’s business cards in TJ. The car is for the most part as it was built and finished in 1961. I have driven this A a lot last year. Reliability runs, car shows, Rod Runs all over California. Been the best Hot Rod I have had the pleasure of owning and driving. Handles and drives excellent. I went through all the brakes, shoes, cylinders, master cylinder, new exhaust with cut outs, new radiator, newly rebuilt as of last week, ’32 Ford tie rod ends with new pivot balls.

    1. Y-blocks

Back in the early 1960s I helped one of my best buddy's put a Ford Y-block v8 in his 30A. This is a photo of us,just as we finished getting Scarlet Fever running with the v8. Steve Reep is on the running board and I'm on the rear fender. Photo taken in about late Feb.64,but developed in 65< His Mom,like my Mom didn't get film developed tell all *the pics on the roll had been used up{ not like today were it's all right now thing} SteveReep n DanaBarlowYblockpoweredA.JPG
It is still up on jack stands in pic,but when down had 3in. rear tire too fender top and front had 1in. to fender top,so was a rake. Seating was stock "A" but new covers an that let us run around in Steve's rod with up to 5 or a few more if gals packed in. The color is shiny red with white top.
I pinstriped it an painted the name on cowel for Steve.
The rod made it all the way to from early 60s to 2000,Steve Reep then passed it to Rob Bean, who in turn passed it to Goroge Sands in 2000/Sands cut it up into his idea of what he wanted,he took about 2ft. out of center making it short an stuck it on top of S10 frame n motor. The work was well done, just not at all design wise anything like I had hoped he'd do. So another cool old rod ,got gold chained or what ever its called now?.,when history is screw up another way.

I hear ya. For me it's all about driving the shit out off them. I like working on them and making them my own but I've been daily driving my old cars my whole life. I tried newer cars but I just couldn't get what I do from the older stuff. Mostly cars and trucks from the 60's. This is my first Hot Rod but defiantly not my last.

  18. Oh hell yeah i drive my cars! They're only on a trailer when i drag the junk home for the first time. I have a later model shop truck to haul autoglass but my next newest is a 79 truck. Me and my buddies have a saying, just put a windshield in it and let's go! I'll keep the wagon I've got, at least until i get the opportunity to trade it for a 59-60 Chevy wagon ;)

59-60 Chevy wagon. I love those. I don't blame you for wanting one of those. I don't have an old car or truck to drive right now but hopefully soon. I sold one to get my Sedan. I'm hoping to have my 64 C10 finished by summer. I'll probably get my Pontiac running for spring because I hate the P.O.S. winter beater I'm driving now.

Wheel choice is important on a rod or musclecar and I didn't care for this fellow's
choice. Still, it's a good looking car and it was out and about in the middle of the
week so I took the photo.
