I know this may be a can of worms I’m opening up here..... but I’d really like to know what you’ve found to be a good aluminum polish & protectant. Either in one product or multiple products and if you’ve compared products over the years as well?

My tube of Wenol blue has finally been used up & so far I’ve liked it over Blue Magic, Turtle Wax, & Mother’s.

I've used Simichrome Polish on aluminium wheels and also on anything chrome for a long time.

I've hand polished a lot of aluminum over the years and prefer Mothers. I like Wenol or Semichrome for chrome.

  4. Polish it with whatever but protect it with Gibbs Brand.

White Diamond. Got a sample foil packet in a goodie bag somewhere and it was so good I went to buy a bottle. Was surprised how expensive it is but bought it anyway. It's definitely worth it. Makes my aluminum radiator look like chrome. (Disclaimer: I have no connection with White Diamond other than as a satisfied customer)

I use the Mother's to polish, but haven't found any good protectants. I just touch up with Mother's again.

I've had my best luck with Adam's Polish. Two part, #1 cleans (very easily) and #2 protects

  11. I remember a product a friend of mine swore by as a protectant/preservative for aluminum. I can’t remember the name, it started with a Z I believe. Am I geezing? This was about 30 years ago.

There is a local company that makes a decent product, I used it only once so far and it seems to do a nice job.

Tell me more about using Gibbs on aluminum. Does it attract dust and dirt? Or does it dry and then protect the finish?

I have become somewhat of an aficionado of polishing compounds and I say it depends on the material and the placement.

Stainless steel whether it be bolts, brake lines or suspension parts is definitely black bar and then jeweler's rouge on the buffer stand. While an aluminum driveline responds nicely to periodic polishing with mothers and a foam cone on a high speed air drill (tip: smear the mothers on the cone and then spray a light mist of detail spray over the top). Hand polishing with a tube of Wenol keeps the blower and heads looking fresh. A glass of Maker's 46 close by and Dire Straights on the stereo make for a nice evening in the garage.

I have a few firearms , that have seen and still see lots of bad weather. The very best protectant , that surpasses anything on metal is WAX , clean it polish it and wax it heavy and all is well

This is the best and easiest polish that we have found next to the polish that can be obtained at some large truck stops.
We have used all the rest.

We use there Speed Wax to, excellant results in minutes.

Flitz is my favorite by far.Check the lists on everything about what not to get near.Flitz is the safest and most effective near other substrates.imho.I love Gibbs as the best protectant ,for Metal,Mag,and Aluminum.

I was just at a second hand store and they had about a dozen tubes of wenol. Maybe I should go back and get some.

Thanks! Nuvite has multiple grades of compound depending on the amount of corrosion. I haven't mastered it yet but when you get it right it leaves a finish you could fall into. Kind of like those super deep paint jobs you see at shows like Autorama.

This is a good example of the results.

  24. I have been using Mothers since you couldn't buy it in the store.

I have also been known to use Lemon Pledge (aerosol) to protect aluminum once is was shined or machined. It won't work as a polish but it is a damned good protector.

I've had good luck using Wizards Metal Renew. I polish both alum and SS parts with it.

Shark hide... I have used this product sold by Eastwood on both my (off topic 66 Satellite) and my 48 Chevy on all the the trim both aluminum and SS trim as well as wheels and have not had to do anything but wash for over 4 years. This is good shit for anything that is shinny. Google Sharkhide as they have a good web site that tells all. STH72713.JPG Sorry about the OT picture.
