L [king for input on paint color for roof of my 41 ply. Buisness cpe.
Is is hotrod black now, but the roof needs to be painted (in process of stripping now).
I am thinking of doing the roof in a different color, but having trouble coming up with a color fir the roof.
Thinking something in the greenish or blue green. Just looking for any good ideas. 20191213_104338.jpg 20150711_120112.jpg 20150711_120050.jpg

Two tones just don't seem to fit on 40's cars. I'd paint it black.

instead of just roof, do hood to trunk above side trim - whatever color that you end up with it should be as dark as possible - gives illusion of car roof line being lower - be sure to use primer/sealer & base and clear that are all compatible

  6. The over/under 2-tone is popular on the street rod side of town.
I don't think it looks bad. It's not ugly. But you might be coloring outside the oh-so-traditional lines on this forum. Like a poodle cut on a rottweiler.
Open the example thumbnail pix when nobody's looking.

na , it breaks up the lines , which is not good for thirties and forties cars.

  12. Paint black (gloss) with a tire rake, red rims , wide whites small caps , trim rings optional.

Keep it dark, your car has a big butt ( I am trying to me mean ). I don’t think it would look good in white, you asked for input, sorry

Thanks for the input, but I'm kind of old school and struggling with a change.
It has been the hotrod black for 10 years now, but thinking of a change of some kind.
No, defiantly not white. I don't want it to look love a cop car.

  16. Repaint it to match what ya got and do some scallops to compliment the interior. And YES, get rid of those red wheels!

I can't link it right now, but two tone black on the bottom and a chocolate brown with a little red tint to it on top, Almost a tarnished copper? Bronze black? It should still be dark though.

As stated, that era really doesn't lend itself well to the two tone treatment. Not saying it can't be done, but it's a fine line. Same with the flat colors, these cars really need the shiney-shine to make 'em pop to their full potential. JMO...
If I was gonna do it, it's probably be a dark gray/charcoal, or something along those lines.

All 1 colour as others have stated. Two - tone looks 1970s and 80s street roddy. All 1 color looks so much better.

I went the other way with my 37 Chevy sedan was painted two tone in the 80s and last Christmas I broke it down to just the body and repainted it all 1 colour. To me it looks less street rod . Some pictures of it going back together included.

Love those old Plymouths, my first car was a '40 Plymouth coupe but I'm not sure of a two tone on one. However my '41 Chev pickup gets lots of positive comments and a couple of favorite paint trophy's it so it can work. It has to the exactly right color or it would look like hell. If you need change maybe a very dark blue or maroon single color.
