Projects 1964 Comet ROAD-RACER build Thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fiveoh108, Nov 28, 2019.

  1. I got new floor pans for it, I got them in separate pieces since the entire footwell on my pieces is not too bad. I think the floors are the same since the doors are interchangeable. I think the extra wheelbase is from the c-pillar back

I'm going to enjoy seeing a Road Racer built, good to see you doing something outside-the-box.

  5. Is it a big block or small block? I wanted to represent the mercury somehow. I also got an early 260 timing cover with the breather tube, so hopefully that will work since the valve covers are solid.[IMG][IMG]

^^ SBF, could be a 351W however it could be just my eyes. I see you're adapting FE valve covers to a SBF. Also you don't see too many of those 2x4 intakes, I've only seen them on SBF Shelbys. If a 351W the intake would be wider due to increased deck height. The quickest and easiest way of differentiating between the different family Ford V8 engines is to count the valve cover bolts.

  7. It’s a 351w with a 427 looking dual quad intake, carbs mounted backwards, and FE valve covers with valve cover adapters small block to big block. Good eye! Hopefully will be in the comet soon

  9. It’s been a while since I updated this thread, still going strong! I got a 302 with a spun main nearing for cheap, that will not be a dual quad 331 for the comet. Working on floor rust repair, the back floor under the seat is not re popped so I gotta make it or find it somewhere.

As I have been reading, I have learned that the engine compartments where painted grey on team am style cars of the day so oil leaks and cracks could easily be seen. May go that direction. Still deciding on what kind of roll bar/ cage to put in it... I welcome any input

Where did you get your floor pans from and are the stamping accurate to the original floor?

  14. From Autokrafters, pay the money for the better stamping , not the machine done owns, I got those at first and the fit was terrible, the AK stampings are nice and fit

I had a line on one those scoops a couple months back. Guy was wrecking a 1969 Ford tandem dump truck that had one. I told him I wanted it over the phone and mentioned there kind of hard to get, hot rodders want them. Never heard back from him. I guess he researched it and found out he had gold sitting on that old Ford hood.

  21. I think I have an extra one if you are interested. It’s not quite as expensive as gold, but it’s not a freebee

  26. Hate to tell you, but you'll have to hack the shock towers to get that 351 in there... if you want any kind of decent exhaust. I've seen it done without hacking, but the owner used early 221 SBF exhaust manifolds and they choked the motor pretty badly. Headers are impossible...

It is looking good! Are you planning to use ‘65 style manual steering? I had to convert to that style to clear the big tube JR headers with the Boss 302 in mine. I also convert d to a large radiator, I am using a big block Cougar/Mustang unit with a matching shroud and the stock Boss flex fan. Cooling should not be an issue. Keep the updates coming.
Here is my setup: (the tower brace is not installed in this photo)
