While trying to solve a small issue, I looked over at the work bench tonight and wondered... am I the only one with ADD on here that doodles on the workbench? I might have a roadster problem. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Greetings 08racer!....I pretty much gave up doodling more than 40 years ago when the state of NJ released me from my elementary and high school education!..although I have made scale drawings of mechanical structures and scale models of suspension components!
My work bench is just for working. I use graph paper for doodling that way the scale stays accurate. I guess my training in mechanical drawing brings that out. I got busted many times in high school drawing cars and engines when I was supposed to be listening to a teacher.
Not on the workbench, but I worked for GE for many years, the boys in the toolroom wounld't touch any "government jobs" without a print... I took a rudimentary blue print reading class there and learned how to scratch out a usable print... I have 3 clipboards filled with many good ideas and even more not so good ideas... often I get pretty deep into a project only to find it will not work... ie; I plotted out a system where you lift your toes against a small panel cut out of the subrail under the back 1/4 of the door, this hits a belcrank turning push to pull and unlatches the bear paw latches... drew 20 prints of different parts only to realize that there is little or no extra room in '30 coupe doors for the bear paws... might work better on a roadster ?
All horizontal surfaces in my shop are covered with important parts or tools for immediate use. A bare square foot or two will get covered overnight. You're just showing off.....
A couple of those may have been drawn while on a conf call. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have ocd so anytime there is something on top of the work bench it really bothers me. Just like if a tool is not in the right place. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Wish I could see my table. It's covered up with stuff I need, but don't need right this minute, so I'll set it here where I'll know where it's at, so when I get ready for it, I can spend half a day looking for what I know I have but don't have a clue where it is because I put it there so I could find it when I wanted it! I'm sure no one else has that problem.....
BamaMav hit the nail on the head. I have "Opposite OCD"...nothing bothers me and things just pile up. I can't remember the last time I saw the top of my workbench, hell, I don't know if I've EVER seen it. Chaos and disorder are the norm in my garage
I might write a general reminder on it but it’s gone when I re paint the bench every 6-12 months. you can only clean it so clean. so yes, I fall into that ocd camp. I’ll doodle while on the phone but if it’s in the shop I’ve got pads of scratch paper to use.
I do scribbles out in the shop once in a while, but mostly I just look at my cars and the stuff on the walls....
One of my work benches have so much old dried grease and grime I could probably etch a masterpiece in it with a screwdriver.
What did you use to add color to your doodles on the boards? Not gonna lie-- I may steal your idea of drawing on wood as a possible project idea for my art classes (I teach)
Inherited this sign (and mindset) from my DOM’s shop. Not proud of it, but I know where everything is. I do have clear fab and assembly tables...they’re covered with dimensions and phone #s.
