IMG_1650.JPG And the shifter. Whittled out of some mysterious stainless On my little craftsman lathe, slower than I am used to but pretty relaxing for a Sunday morning drinking coffee and listening to some tunes. The taper doesn't really show in the pics. I will polish it later.

IMG_1669.JPG IMG_1670.JPG Still dicking around with clutch linkage and all the other bits I need to have in the cab while maintaining room for me! I had to put a bunch more bend in the shifter and lower it a tad to keep my knuckles out of the dash. It's ergonomic as hell and visually weird which I think is great! I also got the e brake mount figured. I need to find some cheap rubber shifter boots or scrounge the wrecking yard for small leather ones.

    No worries.
Picking away at the little tedious important stuff. Engine build and paint on the frame will be fun!

I need to drill and tap the shifter for positive stops, but it feels bitchin!

Cam cores went to the grinder last week so once I get the convoluted mess of a clutch linkage figured out I am on to engine assembly! Woo hoo!

It's been a long twisty road for you getting through the "evolution" of this but it has been educational for the rest of us.

IMG_1694.JPG Finally got to patching my really screwed up door. It needs beating and bashing but it's close. I should have put a full skin on it. I may one day in the future, it's not getting fancy paint so it will be easy to match. Thanks to @29Hiboy for wheeling the panel for me.

And I finally got my shrinker/stretcher mods done. I don't have room for a fancy stand with both machines mounted on it, and I only use it once every couple of years so I figured this made sense. It has multiplied leverage and the handle makes way more sense to me this way. And it's all made from cast off junk I had laying around the shop.

Nope. An old clevis, a rod end off a jeep sway bay disconnect, a couple of coupling nuts and some scrap plate

Whoa last time I looked at this thread this thing had a flathead 6, now a 330 Desoto? Score! Fills up that engine bay nicely. You're building an awesome hot rod, thanks for sharing.

What differences are there in length between a 34 and 35 pickup hood tops?
The side panels have more curve at the bottom on 35 but what about the top?

IMG_1719.JPG IMG_1721.JPG So a little side project to help my friend @29Hiboy .
We have been rebuilding and setting up his two speed Halibrand champ quick change. It now has a DPI gold track and slip in 31 spline axles. We had to make a few tools and modify the adapters.
Should be very cool on the road. Either 2.73 or 4.86 rear gears all shiftable from the drivers seat!

I was today years old when I learned that existed and now I need one. That sounds amazing.

Ya it's a two speed halibrand 301 quick change. Has a shifter through the cover and a set of dog clutches to shift between gears. The gears need to be machined a little but it sure looks cool.

Ok, so this is a homebrew? I have been looking and can't find any information or mention of this outside of your thread right here and I am thirsty for this knowledge! Looks like a few other guys are too.

Sorry but it's not one of those. It's a Torrence calif. Halibrand 301 with an extension made for the spur case and the cover modified. It has a longer quill and pinion spline.
