I have extracted several wheel centers both from ford 16” and 15” wheels that had rotted rims. I bought a replacement hoop from miller tire thinking the center would slip right in, it does not. The hoop dia i.d. Is 13.5 while the ford 16” center has an o.d. of 9/16. Do I need to find a hydraulic press? Has anyone done this?
Putting something 9/16 diameter into a 13.5 inch hole would take a lot of filler rod, not a press. Now if the center is 13 9/16 and the hole is 13.5 .... The center needs some trimmed off of it. 1/16 is a lot to try to press.
Correction should be 13 9/16”., so most people are chucking the center up in lathe and skimming 1/16” off the diameter. Thats .032 radially. I’ll have to give it a go and take pictures
If you have access to a lathe, that would best. But don’t turn it too small, leave a little to press in. Bones
i think thats a good thing that they are too big. after you trim them in a lathe they will be perfectly round which they may not be now
