I recently bought a 55 Chevy 6400 to haul firewood. It's got a 235 c.i. six which is very long in the tooth i.e. smokes like a chimney. I'm thinking about swapping motors. I have a 4.3 v6 and a mid 70's 350 c.i. and am wondering which would be the easier swap. Any info would be appreciated.

  2. Some of the other guys will probably chime in, but from what I understand a V8 swap will involve moving the steering box. A later model Chevy six, 230, 250, 292 would be an easier fit.

Moving the steering box doesn't sound like much fun. I guess I'll rebuild the 235c.i. and keep my eye open for a more powerful 6 cylinder. Thanks for the response.
