I picked up a 36 ford front axle with disk brakes the ibeam is twisted and bent can I put the spindals on my Model A ibeam so I can use the disk brakes?
You might be able to put the whole axle in it if it ain't to badly bent and twisted as the can be straightened. It will help to lower the front a little.
I would like to utilize the I beam because its chromed and I was going to try a straighten it in a press. I just couldn't remember if the spinals were interchangeable or not
Be sure to plan ahead about the rims you want to run. I don't think the early Ford wire wheels work very well with disc brakes. I like bent spoke Kelseys but it all depends on the rest of the car. Even if they fit the discs will throw enough dust to keep you busy trying to keep them clean. Charlie Stephens
Are you sure it is a 1936? 1936 is a one-year-only spindle. A disc kit for them would be odd. They interchange with other year axles, but the brake mounts, and bearing spacing are different. Discs are fine on an A. My brother has been running them for a very long time, drives multi-state tours, including frequent panic stops. He ain't dead yet.
Not completely sure the previous owner said it cam off his 36 truck he converted to Mustang II. Let me get a pic for you .
Look to be 1937-1941 round back Ford spindles. If you use them on the A axle, use the kings pins for that year spindle. Disc brake conversions do tend to set the wheels out about 5/8" per side, something to consider if you are running fenders.
