Hot Rods Just How Many Sets of Wheels and Tires Do You OWN?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lothiandon1940, Nov 30, 2019.

  1. ....................Thanks for the kind words, Milo. It's just an old hot-rod.

  2. Just a quick walk through both garages yielded 66 wheels, from k/o wires and kidney beans, bolt on early Ford, Halibrand sprints and spokes, American 5 spokes and a few clones, a set of Vette magnesium 18's, a few Mustang 19's and a half dozen BMW Z3 M's. That's probably half of what I had a couple years ago. Ya might say I have a weakness for wheels. Time to start selling a few more. Psst..don't tell my wife.

I gave away some steelies I had a some years ago to help a family memeber out who was gathering a load of scrap to sell.
Two of em were original 55 chevy wheels, one was a old rusty 15 inch chrome reverse that I could have cleaned up and painted but I didnt have a mate anyway so....(plus a few more)
later on I bought another 55 that had that one perfect match to that reversed wheel:confused: (I still have it:rolleyes:) and I had to go buy two original 55 steelies for that 55 as thats what I liked and wanted to run by theno_O...:D
This may be another dont throw it away thing, but I think as long as I keep junk the more sure I will be that I will never need it:D
I have old five spokes and slots etc still waiting tho, maybe I will sell them at a swap meet or something someday so I will finally need them:cool:

Wheels and tires take up too much space. Here in the land of winter, it is bad enough just to store those winter tires for the daily driver's, never mind finding space for the nice stuff.

Man you guys make me feel like a slacker in this department.
Mostly I have "rollers" that could be stuck on something that doesn't have wheels or handed off to someone stuck out in front of the house with a flat.
I have a collection of 35 wires that I picked up for the Model A over the years one at a time and a set of Ford pickup steelies that may get used on it instead.
I kept a set of steelies to replace the Enkies on the 48 and the Enkies will get stuck on an ot project never to be seen here.
Mostly I have been in the get rid of mode on wheels and tires rather than the collect mode though. If it doesn't have a project to go on it's going by by.

I've got 3 of what may be 17 inch 32 ish Packard wires with a big six lug bolt pattern that need a new home complete with 700 17 tires on them.
Bolt pattern is quite a bit bigger than 6 hole Chevy.

One room in the barn is for wheels, one room is for tires …. there's a pair of 8.20 U.S. Royal Master Curbguards out there made about 1955 I plan to mount & use with total disregard to all the "oh my, your tires are too old" crap.

Ive got 53 ( Yes, an odd number) "cool" wheels at the minute, I'm struggling to find space for them all though! IMG_20191122_170322.jpeg

I have way over a 150 if I count all my 12" vintage Halibrand midget wheels and tires.
I used to buy all the Buick Skylark wires I could find, I probably have 6 sets of the standard ones and a couple of sets of the X's.
The 2 sets of the Skylarks that are on vehicles are on my '59 Vette and '26 T Touring
I have a couple of sets of Packard Caribbean with one set on my '27 Roadster.
There are a few sets of Chryslers, some with 5.5" bolt pattern and some with 4.5.
I have one set of wires that I'm told were an option on '55 - '57 Chevys that have a 4.75" bolt pattern.
There are probably another 40 to 50 race car wheels, 5X5 and wide 5 out in a shed along with 20 to 25 Hoosier race tires.
I know as soon as I post this I'll think of a bunch more.

    THANX RICH

How close is to close to the furnace? got em in the basement about 6 feet away and covered so the sun can't shine on them through the window.
Keep my slicks in the basement to store above 50 degrees, read some where that the rubber compound gets hard storing them in the cold.

    I like Spokes :)

  11. ........I'm not sure, but I would try to keep them a reasonable distance from any electric motor, maybe 10 feet to be safe.

  15. I have hundreds of rims and wheels. Not so many tires. I run tires that are round black and hold air. when they quit holding air I dispose of them.

Too many.. I have a 10 foot tall pallet rack with four 10x4 foot shelves dedicated to a variety of wheel and tires that mostly go to my daily driver trucks, my Nova’s, and my Barracuda’s.. There’s also a few Ford related wheels and tires that I have left over from a 32 pickup project I had a while ago.. I haven’t taken inventory on them in a couple of years but I’m sure I have a few more now then I did at that time.. I also have another couple of shelves with wheels and tires that are for sale or for rollers or a cushion for pushin heavy things around with my Towmotor..

  25. It seams to many at times, I was just putting on paper a plan to take 10-12 of the polished ones and making a Christmas tree...lol
Several 3.5-4 skinnies from Rockets, Cragar, Gyros, Weld, Artillery
Several 5-8 mediums from chrome reverse, Cragar, slots, torque thrusts, steel
    Several 10-11 wide in slots
A few 14 wide from Team lll and Weld
Tires I have ET Streets, pie crusts, bias, radials and good used burnout tires..lol
Now back to that Christmas tree of shiny rims...

I forgot I even have nos cardboard wheels..lol

I was undecided if I wanted blackwalls or whitewalls so I brought both. I got the same size rims / tyres so I didn't have to make 2 sets of cycle guards. Glen P1010895.JPG P1010898.JPG P1010052.JPG P1010117.JPG

One less set than I need! Now I know why. All you guys have the good ones hidden in the basement under the old Playboy magazines. I guess I may as well go ahead and buy the new reproductions. :(

I’ve got couple sets but every old car I have has the same bolt pattern so I can justify it easier if I can use that set of wheels on every car lol
