Attached below are photos of three early Ford kingpins. On the far right is stock 37-41, middle is stock 35-36, and far left is a mystery pin. I need another one of these mystery pins. It has the same length (5.15") as a stock 32-36 kingpin, and same notch dimension as the stock 32-36 pin (2.84" from shoulder to center of notch). In other words, this pin shares all the same dimensions as the stock 32-36 pin, but the only difference is the fact that in doesn't have the mechanical brake cup on the top. I want another one of these pins to use with hydraulic brakes with stock 32-34 spindles. Does anyone know what this pin was used for or have one/two in their parts stash. Thanks, David

Cut the mechanical brake cup off the top and you should have a matching pair methinks.

I have cut the top off of the mechanical brake pin to clear self adjusting self energizing Bendix brakes

  5. We have used the later pins after cutting a new notch in the correct location. We used NORS pins that have the integral head; the current production pins have a washer on top and don't appear to be strong enough to bear the weight (thru the bearing) of the car. Due to the newly cut notch, we took extra care in shimming the spindle correctly so the load was on the bearing and not on the lower spindle eye.

I cut the tops off, weld up the holes and turn them smooth on the lathe, kinda time consuming todo but it looks nice

Thanks everyone for the replies. I went with the majority on this one. I had a friend turn the heads of a NOS pair of 35-36 kingpins yesterday. Last night I epoxied elevator bolts to the top of them, and this morning sanded them smooth. Turned out good! Thanks again. David
