    Hello all,
Please advice the reason and how to fix the engine noise showing in the shared link video.
We just changed the rotor, cover plates, points and bushings of the distributor, also it has new spark plugs and cables.

    Thanks in advance.

Alternator bearing. Take the belt off and start it and see if the noise is still there.

What kind of funky alternator and generator setup do you have? And is the belt straight? I agree your video's sound doesn't describe the sound very well, but from this angle it looks like the belt is not aligned. Might make bearings go bad.

  5. Is that an alternator and generator on there?

  6. Maybe its that chain tapping on the air cleaner. Also what's the deal with the alternator and generator? The belt is crooked too. Take the belt off and see if the noise goes away.

    It is an alternator.
I am not an expert mechanic, and unfortunately there is not many people around that knows about these cars.
    Thank you for your help!

  8. What they said ^^^ it's definitely rotational. Take the belt off and fire it up

I'd say it was the belt also, take the pulley off the generator and the alternator to your friendly local machine shop and have them bore the pulley to fit the alternator and then buy the Speedway bracket to mount the alternator. Ran that setup on my avatar and the V8 A I'm building now .

I’d assume they are running the alternator for charging and the gen is still there... as a belt tensioner? Looks like the alternator is mounted off the generator.

I’m assuming they aren’t in a country where speedway can just send them a Flathead center mount alternator bracket so this is what they did.

Where are you @FECH maybe someone’s closer that can help than you’d think

That being said, take the belt off and see if it stops

Do you have any layout to change to a more accessible distributor? The original helmet style is difficult to reach and calibrate.
    Thanks all again!

I witnessed a Banger in a Model A that received new cap and rotor. They didn't get along well. Rotor was smacking each terminal as it went round and round. Did you buy re-pop parts?

  14. I'd also be checking timing and check for plugged exhaust....engine sounds really lazy. You can check for plugged exhaust with a vacuum gauge. If your reading goes lower with more RPM, you have an obstruction someplace in the exhaust system.

Looks to me like the individual cooling blades on the alternator is contacting the edge of the belt.

That chain bouncing around on the breather is part of the popcorn noise.

Sounds like it's straining, That air filter is choking the carb also.

Sorry, I am not automotive mechanic, how can I check vacume leak and dizzy?
Besides the pooping explosions, the engine doesn't generate enough power to move. It is very weak.
Before was running acceptable, but after we changed all the parts mentioned in the first post the noises appear. Probably some parts are damage or something is not installed properly.

  21. Okay,,,,so it was fine until the tuneup work ?
I would double check my work .
Start there and then move on to the rest.
