Well, if you walk aisles at HERSHEY and other flea markets and see Deuce grill shells with an asking price of $2500
it's not a high asking price. One year at HERSHEY, I saw what was advertised as the "most original deuce shell on the planet" and the asking price was $5000. Don't get me wrong, it was a beautiful original, but 5 grand and the seller said he has a few interested people. The problem is, that to sell off 40, '32 grill shells, could take forever. If it was the 1980's when everybody and their brother was building a '32, it might have been worth it.

$45,000.00 is the starting bid... way to much for me.

If you sold them off all individually, you might be able to get that kind of cash, but who is going to want 40 of them at once? And are they really all 100% originals, or would you go there and find out that 5 are fiberglass and a couple are Brookville and like half of the inserts are repop?

Also, if the guy really, truly wanted to sell these as a collection, for $45K, he or she could have spent more than 3 minutes taking pictures and writing the ad.

"You spent all of our retirement money on those stupid grilles! We need that money for new kitchen cabinets!" "Those are worth big bucks! Fine, I'll put them for sale on ebay if it'll shut you up."

stuff is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it

  12. Buy the shells, build the cars. What's so hard to understand? Just think 'next project'.

  15. He doesn't want to break up individually or into smaller lots. He doesn't want to pack and ship. But he is convinced that somebody within 100 miles of his house has 45k "CASH". Most swap meet vendors don't gross 45K for 10 years.
I'd like to have 40 free BJ's with home delivery. What are my chances?

Call him a 'collector' or call him a 'hoarder', there's probably a half dozen more guys doing the same thing. Together these guys are the reason the prices for the shells have gone up 1,000%. They are taking them off the market causing an artificial shortage. When they die or dump and flood the market, they should sell for a lot less than top dollar. The law of supply and demand cuts both ways.
He must be one of the Hunt brothers.

  16. His ad also says "Bring Cash". eBay generally frowns on that.

If I had them I would do the same thing. List them at a very high price. It costs nothing to do that. Wait until someone makes you a reasonable offer and tell him to come get them and end the auction.

Worldwide advertising and it costs you nothing.

So HRP is finally getting rid of some of his hoard of 32 parts!:p

  23. Definitely not my stash, a have sold a couple of my nicer grilles in the last few years and 2,000 to 2,500 is not uncommon for a nice grille shell & insert, but there ain't too many people sitting on 40 Deuce shells anymore.

Deuce Roadster had a bunch and sold most of them a Hersey, one shell & insert was in a wooded Ford crate and he also had a NOS Pines winterfront and sold both to one man for a huge stack of Ben Franklin's.

lets see, 40 grilles @ $1125.00 each. since $2000-$2500 seems to be the going rate, lets sell them cheap @ $1500 each for a grand total of $15,000.00 profit.

anybody got $45,000.00 I can borrow? I'll pay you back eventually.

It takes money to make money, wonder how you would do with $45,000 in the stock market for the amount of time it takes to sell the last of those shells? Bob

  28. I thought of Moriarity,,,,,but the room is not organized nearly enough to be his stash. Besides,,,he is a 40 guy.
    Lol.
This is an awesome collection though.
