Repaired the column shift tube and fought with it for an hour getting it back together correctly. However long it sat with inoperative lower levers didn't do it any good. Once I am sure I have the correct rods I will decide whether or not to cut the exhaust pipe to make room for them. That's tomorrow work.

  2. Nice day today here in Connecticut with bright sunshine. Sort of the calm before the storm, but I will take as many like today as I can get. Did some work outside and then ended up in the garage working on an old heater I picked up at a tag sale a few weeks back. I thought the face had the Deuce look. I cleaned it up and repaired a few thing and now putting it back together. I did not take any before photos.:( Anyway when finished I will sell it or bring it to Hershey next year. Gives an old man something to do while waiting to get my duel gauge back from Tom Wolf Instruments. IMG_6400.JPG IMG_6401.JPG IMG_6403.JPG IMG_6402.JPG IMG_6406.JPG IMG_6405.JPG Not sure if I will use the original tag or come up with something better.

Got two engines hauled off out of my way. One was at the shop in town 1956 Nailhead, the other a 1961 235 was at home. Now it's a 20 mile trip to town one way and have one lane bridges repairs both ways( traffic is a bitch).
I got lucky when Joey called I was at the shop in town, so his snagged the Nailhead then followed me home to get the 235. Made for a short day in town for me. :)

Machined the Cad 390 crank on the lathe at work for input shaft clearance during my lunch break. After work took it back to machine shop for balancing.

I see you found some insulboard without printing all over it. I've got the same job to do, but it's waiting on me to find help getting a deck lid out of the rafters before I close it in.

Finished the retrofit of the column shift, removed the Daytona floor shift parts, welded up the exhaust pipe that I had to modify. About half way through I was hurting bad. Don't let anyone tell you that bruised ribs will be fine in couple of weeks...

I just got home from the Muscle car Corvette show in Chicago. Not what I expected. $25 parking then wait in line for 45 minutes to spend $30. for a ticket to get in the show. Not worth the time and money to go back again.

  20. I have been getting my ass kicked by 2 - 9/16" long pieces of what looks like 3/4 " heater hose that was supplied with my front end rebuild kit from Shoebox Central/Dennis Carpenter (I say that cuz my parts have both labels?).
These are for the front upper pivots to upper control arm connection.
I have tried til I'm blue in the face, arms shaking like a new born Gazelle's knees & I can't compress those little pieces of f***ing rubber.
Is there a tool or do I trim this seal to fit.
I know that its gonna be a relatively easy thing that I am totally overthinking (brainf#@*ing)
    Story of my life.

I built a pair of fender extensions for my 53 Ford COE transporter, some time back. Took advantage of one of the last sunny days around here, to get them bolted on. Plan on trimming off the bottoms and getting the corners radiused tomorrow, weather permitting. IMG_3609.JPG

  22. Marty , great job .did you build with power hammer or English wheel ? I need to make a pair . Pictures ?

My eldest son bought the remains of a power wagon. We managed to get it loaded on his trailer. I bought a thunder chicken with a 428 engine. and some sort of stupid dasdaredized cross between a 57 Desoto wagon and a 50 Ford panel truck.

Blue, I posted some pics on the metal shaping thread. Briefly, I used a tank roller and bead die to make this large disc, formed and welded a 3 1/2" wide strip, to each half, to make the fender extensions. IMG_7657.JPG

  30. I love those old Power Wagons. I rode in a fair number of them while in the Canadian Army reserve, just before they retired them in the late 50s. They were one hell of a tough truck.
I had a chance to buy one in the late 80s, but my wife would have killed me. What are the plans for it?
