Heres a pic of the dummy rear end. It has slip tubes to set rear end width.
Here I'm trying to finalize ride height, tire clearance, and body rake.

  2. That dummy rear end is a slick idea! Love the stance in that last pic.

I'm going to plate/reinforce my hanging pedals, too. As well, I'm going to tie that area in to the dash bar to reinforce and remove any flex.

    Brent:
I’m very happy with mine, there is no flex , feels
rock solid when braking. I wish I would have raised
the master cylinder a few inches higher. It would
Make the pedals a little more comfortable. Mine is
fine, but be aware of the possible problem . We step
on the pedals with our toes basically at a 6-1 ratio.
Leave enough room so you’re heel doesn’t hit the floor.

Finished installation. I had to box the rear 32 rails, add a cross memeber, and
a lot of fussing around to make the tank fit.
It would seem that tieing into the sides of the frame would be more logical, but
trying to clear all obstacles is difficult. A223.JPG

I made all the brackets for the panhard bar so that it would be level with frame.
There is also ajustment at frame tie in.

    I used 1 1/2' square tube with 3/16" wall for all frame mods. A207.JPG A208.JPG A209.JPG
The trans mount has 3/8" nuts weded inside frame for attaching mount.
I made the coil over mounts with the option to change angle if needed.

I hated replacing original crossmember, but engine set back gave me no choice.
It had been in there over 80 years, at least I kept the rear crossmember. I made
a fancy new K member (sounds good) that also ties into wish bone brackets.
they were located on the inside of frame to give me full turning radius with out the tire
    hitting.

Finally got all rearend peices tacked on This is a late 70's rear end with 3 1/4"
diameter, and 1/4" wall housing. Had to modify all parts to fit because of larger size.
I also added some reforcing plate at coil over mounts. I picked up the rear end from the junkyard,
cut all the old brackets off . It’s a 31 spline w/posi, and 3:50 gear.

Back from Mosers with completed rear in. arrived 8:00 am, and left at 11:00
for 3 hour ride home. They will not guarantee housing warpage unless they weld it.
they laser check all cut points, and mounting brackets are correct. I was spot on so they
knocked a $100 dollars off price. I left the center section with them for rebuild, and
gear change, 3.50 . 3 days later I received rebuilt center section from Moser.

  13. What a treat Rich. Nice review for those of us that have had the privilege and pleasure to see you work your magic over the past decade. Time do fly...……….. The folks who are new to this project have some more treats ahead as you wind to the finish.

The long slot is for panhard bar clearance (if needed), I know a lot of people trim
this part of the cross member for cleaner looks, but I feel it adds a lot of
stength to the chassis. I also notched the frame for front spring clearance.

Everything ground, cleaned, and etch primed. A220.JPG A221.JPG A219.JPG

I didn't like the clamp supplied with the steering stabelizer so I made my own.

Finished panhard bar mount, and bolt on shock mounts. A225.JPG A226.JPG

Beautiful work. This will be a sweet car. My avatar was a ten year project, so I know something of the dedication it takes to finish.

Mkebaird: Thanks for the kind words! I sure have a soft spot for the early
Vettes! You sure have enough cars to work on!

I had a few interruptions while working on my
Coupe which slowed some of the progress. This
Build log will reflect that as I post , some were
    By choice, some health problems.

A friend of mine needed some work done on his 28 Dodge 4 door sedan.
I moved the *roller* to the other side of the shop. (it may be 2 car garage,
but I work on cars not park them so it's a shop) At least that sounds good to me !

This may not look like a 4 door sedan, trust me that's what it was. dodge1.JPG

Another friend had started the transformation! The windshield is a swap meet
piece of unknown orgin. A 3" tube had been used to cap doors and body. also
all doors got new latches. dodge2.JPG

I started welding up 36 holes in the firewall. Part of the new toe board
    is visible on pass side.

The new trans tunnel was simple, but I also added a lot 1/4" plate behind
the side kick panels so their was something to tie swing pedals in. dodge5.JPG dodge4.JPG dodge3.JPG

The front seat needed a little repair. the back of the seat is a tie in point
for the "b"pillars which were rusted out. dodge6.JPG dodge7.JPG

I rebuilt the top half pass side, repaired *B* pillars , and finished seat. That's
2 pices of plywood with the bottom piece cut back to lock into the seat. dodge10.JPG dodge9.JPG dodge8.JPG

The rest is rust repair, but we all love pics! This panel was already started , and started rusting.
I cleaned it up and fabbed a new door bottom.

I have had good luck using step dies in my bead roller to help make a smooth curved
    door edge. patch1.JPG patch2.JPG patch3.JPG patch4.JPG
