[IMG]I'll never understand this stuff, but want to know why the red wires on top are twisted and others are not. Bob

  4. ...I'm a do-it-yourselfer about everything,..have always used fuse panels from early to mid 60's American Motors cars,...they are clearly marked with input and output terminals and fuse sizes (glass fuses),..(not pre-wired, all push on terminals)..they are great for simple hot rod wiring without a lot of electrical accessories....no pics rite now but will get some soon...hardest part mite be finding these panels;..don't know if anyone sells new ones like it.

This was the first car I ever wired completely from scratch. I don’t believe the wires being twisted do anything. I just did it because I thought it would look cool.

  7. Cut a piece of 1/4" bakelite and added a Cole Hersee fuse panel for the brake lights, signals, and wiper, a breaker for the head lights, along with the ignition ballast. Mounted in the location Henry mounted his fuse, ballast panel; using the same holes.
Just trying to keep things simple.

Thanks, so the red wires serve no purpose other than looking good? The more I read the less I understand. Bob

I made a simple fuse block and bought a roll of black wire and wired my avatar about 25 years ago, never had any problems. Sold it about 20 years ago and I'm sure I've been cussed for the single color wire. I used a kit on everything since then, they aren't that expensive, labeled and color coded.

    No problem.
The wires themselves serve a purpose. (Haha) The fact they are twisted......no. 1 wire is Battery power to ignition switch. Other one is ignition power to fuses on that side of fuse panel.

I always wire my own cars.I dont believe that Rebel or Painless or anyone else will have what I want to do. I feel sure they will have wires I dont need and will be missing wires I do need.Maybe I am wrong. You are invited to convince me I am wrong

It can't work, looks like you need another mile of multi colored wires. Bob

  15. Like many of us I do all my own wiring, some from scratch and lately a few from kits. My A is getting a Nova fuse block and my own wire loom using labeled wiring that I purchased from Rebel in bulk. Call me anal but I just like it to be a custom loom the way I want it designed for the vehicle I am working on. Along the way I will document all of the wiring into a wiring manual for the next guy to reference. My fuse panel is mounted in the glove box where I can easily get to it without killing my old back.

Peter Anderson on You Tube has a three part viedo on how he wired a 57 Plymouth. Fun to watch and informative.

Nothing to wiring! You take a wire from a fused source, through a switch to the load! Don’t make it complicated! Lol

I stop reading when "easy" "simple" "fun" and "Nothing to it" are used in the first sentence of any electrical discussion. God didn't bless everyone with electrical knowledge. Bob

Bob, I was thinking about you when I wrote that! I knew you would respond! Lol That simple statement reminds me of when I started working as a machinist, many moons ago. I asked the old machinists what the secret to becoming a good machinist was? He said, “ it’s simple.... just cut away all the metal, that is not part of the part! “ Simple!
It would be nice if it all was that simple!

    Merry Christmas!

Running a lathe or Bridgeport has a BIG advantage over electricity. You can see everything. Bob

  26. Very neat.

I would say to not let the big bundle of wires seen here scare you. Do like JC "one piece {wire} at a time"

I totally agree it is neat, but how do you cover everything to protect it from shorts, lot of lost storage space there.

Whenever we scrapped a car, we'd strip all of the wiring from it. Had it all in a big barrel in my Dad;s garage. I wired my 31 pickup using that plus a fuse block from a Chevy LUV. Been wired since 1986-7, never had a wiring issue on it. I drew out a big wiring diagram on a piece of cardboard using the diagrams from Rod & Custom and a Jeep manual which showed the wiring order for a GM column (70's Wagoneer). Not as neat as some of the ones shown. Nowadays, I'd probably just get a kit.

Drew this up for my Model A coupe. Used a Rebel kit, basically a economical way to buy all the different coloured and different gauge wires.

What is the reason the orange wire is running through a copper tube?
