My hot rod is off-topic so no pics I guess I'm the only guy that served in the REAL Navy........submarines!! 1968-72. On the commissioning crew of USS Grayling (SSN 646) It's been decommissioned a loooong time age but not me! Did a little time on the Seadevil too before I got out in 1972. You haven'y lived until you spend MONTHS under water!
    Proud I could serve.

I was drafted in 1970 , got to finish my semester in forestry school. Went to ft. campbell in Feb. of 71.
Went to Germany bought a 67 Z-28 from a guy going to Nam.Went back to Ft.Carson , street raced my 69 big block Camaro to supplement my E-4 salary. Made more racing than the Govt paid me.
Went back overseas in 73 stayed until 75 when I came back to Ft.Campbell. Full circle.
Partnered with 2 civilian guys on a G/Gas Firebird called Wildfire. Got out in Jan. 76 and moved to Miami to work for Tom Finlay on his Tequila Sunrise BB/FC.

Went overseas right away, pic is from Okinawa.
MOS 3500 motor pool., what else! I mainly hauled explosives in a 5 ton, but the pic shows me at 19 awaiting inspection. I front of my’Deuce’ and a half!
Back in the states I finished my tour at Court House Bay driving the commanding officer around in Plymouth staff car, 3 speed stick V8. That’s North Carolina at. Camp Lejune L/Cpl .
The second half of the pic is my grandson who served His 4 year tour, than joined the National Guard where he serves now. He joined the local
Sheriffs Department and is going through his (boot camp training as we speak. To say I am proud of him no words can express!

Not me, but my uncle. I owe a lot to him, and I am the current caretaker of his rides. This was '68 or so, working on his '65 LeMans, which he raced quite often at Englishtown Raceway Park. he managed to pick up a Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star. Certified bad-ass in my opinion!

No, I wouldn't think it would make any difference. However, if you were a VC then maybe not.

Good grief not the VC (they were on the other side for us too). 1st P.O. engineer, Israeli Navy, 79-83 (and one or two reserve duty days after that). No hot rod - back then I was into German rust (I know, I know).

Thanks. The The People's Army of Vietnam (as the VC had become by then) used to send advisors to Israel's "dearest" neighbors, we were aware of that so no love lost there .

    T. Turtle is one of those young men, about to go on patrol in the Eastern Med.

And best wishes to any USN vets - I do remember you chaps visiting Haifa harbour well (6th Fleet I think it was), the USS Nimitz and USS New Jersey were regular visitors...

    Hello,

@41rodderz nice thread appropriate for the recent memories and those that have served from back in those days…

Being Veteran’s Day, we look back to the past to make sure the mistakes back then, are not repeated for the future. That applies to most everything in our USA history books. Many of our high school friends went on to the military service for their time in the story line. Not a HAMB member, but, one of our high school, Bixby Knolls, teammates (football/clubs) has risen to the heights that no one could imagine back in high school. We are all proud of your service and history… thanks for the memories, Keith.

We all had friendships and within the confines of high school, started to formulate how we see the world. Sometimes it was good, and other times very confusing. Hot rods and drag racing took our minds off of the turmoil happening all over the world. Sometimes, it was enough for us to lead a normal life that did not hinder our future growth. So, we lived a regular teenage life with a few normal teenage bumps along the way.

We survived all of these years and look back to those formative years. Sports and hot rods definitely played a big part of my upbringing and I have my brother to thank for that. Support? I have my wife of many years to thank for that… It is “all good” and that feeling is a never ending, great way to have lived all of these years.

    Jnaki

So, as the years wind down, it is fun looking back to the USA history from our own high school classes, our turbulent society, and the changes that took place over the years.

"At the urging of the major U.S. Veteran organizations, November 11, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954."

It was all worth it to get along with the rest of the culture of the USA. AND… together, we are still: “Living in the USA”… Steve Miller.

USAF 67-70. I was lucky enough to serve most of my enlistment in Europe. Here's a pic of my 60 chevy in Greece. Paid $100 for it in 68, then had to spend $125 for a windshield so I could drive it on base. Paid a Greek mechanic 10 cartons of Lucky Strikes (my cost $17) to rebuild the front end!
