Projects Late 30s Chevy 216 engine color

    I want to paint the 235 that I will be putting in my 37 Chevy p/u close to what the original color was and can not remember what it looked like so anyone know of a readily available paint close that color.

    If I recall correctly they used a grey color. I would try Bill Hirsch or possibly the Filling Station. I'm sure both would have what youre looking for.

    It's a bluish gray, just a touch of blue. Sorry, don't have a picture ...

    The Filling Station has the correct color. Hirsch and others are the wrong shade of grey.

    They are very proud of that paint,might see if there is a paint that is close that is a little cheaper. Anything is better then the orange the present engine is painted.

    just get it close. Nobody but a couple of purists will know anyhow. Most of the people that like or care about these inlines are dead

    @junkyardjeff ..."machinery gray" is a good choice. Pretty common color offered by several manufacturers in quart or rattle can.

    I will look for machinery gray,Chevy orange looks too new for a old stovebolt and what was I thinking.

    I was going to reply to the OP by saying "hey, I resemble that remark".......:D........but I like your suggestion even better......and I am an Inliner #057

  12. I have painted them "ford engine grey" but I like the darker/bluer original color better.

    I found some tractor gray that I am going to use.
