A sweetheart '54 hardtop - $90.00 from a lot in Modesto, 1965. Perfect interior, had the coils cut in Tijuana for 10 pesos ... Had one dent, in the middle of the dash. Rubbed out the Roman Red with Ajax & Blue Coraled it. Never again will I go near a can of that stuff ... Oct 20, '19 #2 005.JPG Oct 20, '19 #2 031.JPG

'50 Chev from the closest car lot to the 32nd Street Naval Station the day we got back from Westpac in '67. Engine lasted a week. Oct 20, '19 #2 034.JPG

'56 Olds Deluxe 88 K model. Perfect body, First Class BT on my ship traded it to me for the blown up '50 pickup; never did figure that one out. Had a Motorola AM radio and nothing else, supposed to have been an Oregon State Police car, but I doubt it - 2 bbl carb & no holes anywhere. It was stolen from me by a guy that was supposed to drive it to Vallejo from San Diego in '67, but just went to PA instead. Oct 20, '19 #2 036.JPG

'50 Merc. my best friend Nick bought in Chula Vista for $60 from original owner. The block & crank was still in the chassis, but the rest was in the trunk. I bought it from him for $125 while we were overseas & drove it from Portland to Idaho Falls in Jan '67. Sold it in '69 for $250 & really thought I cut a fat hog ... Oct 20, '19 #2 038.JPG

I don't need to, I'll just spin around and pull "Electric Music For The Mind and Body" from my rack.

One of the best cars I ever owned, also one of the most expensive, costing $324 in '65. Guy I bought it from had torn up the Torqueflite & 3rd member neutral starting it, so I limped it to Idaho & had the shop I later worked for OH the trans & stuff a used punkin in it. Drove it 11 years. One of the best road cars ever built, and that's before radial tires hit the US ... it had all the chrome interior garnish from a $20 '57 Fury, button tufted upholstery from another '57 Plymouth, '57 New Yorker steering wheel. Lots of little things not readily noticed - headlight doors & behind the grille painted black, center grille emblem & rear bumper guards removed, 4 '56 Chev taillight lenses, Electro-Matic mirror ... these pix don't show all the later changes, tho. Bought this '41 Plymouth in Benicia while the ship was getting a yard overhaul at Mare Island. The side windows must have been an option, as they looked like they came in the car new. Engine needed to be put together with a new piston from Sears which was included in the $50 price. This is the engine that taught me about water distribution tubes in flathead MoPars. I never made it further than a few miles before it blew all the water out. I didn't like it enough to fix it, so I just left it in the driveway of the house we were renting when I got transferred to the world's only guided missile seaplane tender in Port Hueneme. Discharged in Nov. '67, moved back to Vallejo to work at Mare Island. Had saved a few grand by then, so I bought a few outfits to work on while I waited for the job in shop 26 to open up ... there's a '55 Customline 6 OD that cost $45 off the Vallejo Olds dealer's back row, a '51 Chev Powerglide wagon for $20, & the $55 '50 Olds 88 3 speed wagon. Waited for 3 months to get on at Vallejo, but it didn't work out. Hooked the Olds to the Dodge & towed home to Idaho. Should have done it the other way around, as I damn near burnt down the fresh Torqueflite pulling Donner Pass without shifting to 2nd ... another lesson learned.
Shortly after getting home & starting at the shop I'd spend the next 5 years, I was able to buy the '50 Olds hardtop from a friend. 3 weeks later, a carload of drunks ran into it ... had the body pulled out & bought 3 more '50s for parts. Sold it back to my friend who had it shot bright yellow !!! ???? Oct 20, '19 #2 015.JPG Oct 20, '19 #2 016.JPG Oct 20, '19 #2 021.JPG Oct 20, '19 #2 047.JPG

    Somewhere in the mid 1980s ... 2 GMC 270s, a 261 Chev & a Merc all ready for installation. Oddly, it was a VW shop ... 10-23 pix 021.JPG

Outside of Anaconda, Montana - 1943. No idea what the occasion was, but they're enjoying some grub & Butte Special in ''pony'' bottles. Is that a Hupp on the left ? 10-23 pix 023.JPG

Reverse side of first photo is stamped Mt. View (California) and probably mid-'30s. Check out the '34 Ford SD laundry truck. Handwriting says "the Auburn is a lovely shade of pastel green."
The second was probably taken in SLC.

First photo is a friend, my wife and another friend that bought this Deuce Cabriolet cowl to repair the body for his project car. Long term project, finally got it out with a Pontiac 421/6-71/4 spd.

SR Nats ‘82- Engines mild to wild. The BBC ran a Hilborn 4 port, and look closely, the owner would cruise the ‘grounds and park the car tossing the keys on top of the injector scoop.
