A little hello, guys, from Switzerland... I am new comer in vintage Fords, after 30 years with Austin Healeys. Nice new world to me. Topic: I have to change either both selector and worm, or maybe only the selector shaft. Usually I only purchase NOS parts, but it seems quite hard to find in the original 1/13 ratio). I heared that new items sold by Mac's and other dealers are crap (specifically the worm seems to break easily). What do you fellows think of older NORS parts (30 or 50 years old) and / or do someone know of top quality new parts, made in US and not in Bangladesh or China... Thanks for help. Chris

  2. The restorers hang out at fordbarn.com and earlyfordv8.org. You might also post there as well as placing wanted ads.

  3. You can also change the worm and sector to 15-1. 33-34 gears work in all 32-34 steering boxes. So don’t limit your self to only 32. 33-34 ratio is better steering.

A `33 or `34 steering box can be made to fit in a `32 by modifying the mounting flange. And is much ea$ier to come by. The whole column is about 3/4 - 1" longer, than the `32.
The `32 pick up mounting flange is also "clocked" different than the `32 passenger car. And the `32 big truck has a bigger diameter sector shaft, that won't fit through a `32 car frame hole, and the flange is "clocked" different.

Can't the 33-34 box be fitted to the 32 frame by just unbolting the 33-34 flange and bolting on the 32?

I wouldn't change just the worm or sector, I'd keep them in matched sets. I just rebuilt a Gemmer #2200 in a 1925 Nash and developed a great appreciation for how they are machined to work together.
