I got this axle as part of a vehicle purchase but can’t figure out what it is and buddy’s have no idea either. Approx 58” WMS to WMS”, 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern with a removable 3rd.

Are you sure you measured the bolt pattern correctly? It looks like an Oldsmobile rearend.

Turn it over and let us see the other side. Might be out of a 55 or so Ford? With the 4.5 bolt pattern, leans toward Ford or MoPar. The u joint doesn’t really look like Ford, but it’s hard to see.

my guess would be 49-56 Ford car, but more pics would help.

here's the one I'm thinking of...at least, the center section

The Mopar 8 3/4 doesn’t have a kick out for the ring gear, but I did forget about the 49-56 Ford rearend...

  10. This is what my 51 ford rear looks like
It dosent look the OP rear has as big a kick out for the ring gear... and it looks like there isnt a fill plug in the same place.
    I dont think it's a 49-55 ford

Ford used two different rear end designs during those years. The Spicer rear is what you have, it was used in trucks, wagons, and Tbirds, from what I've seen. The other one with the removable center was used in normal passenger cars.

That’s a 52-55 ford rear. Same exact rear in my 53. I can tell by the pinion yoke and the leaf pads. And the drums. Looks exactly like mine

Finally was able to get more pics on after 3rd different try and see they still ended up in a weird spot. Posting from an IPhone gets tricky on this forum it seems. Thanks for the replies, sounding like 52-55 Ford

Huh...that's not what the Ford parts book says. But I'm not an expert.

Just a note..The companion flange in the pic is called a "mechanics" flange, not very strong, tend to tear apart at the base of the "ears"..The "other" flange is a little better, uses typical u bolts, some what smaller than a 1310..

Years ago I put a '54 center section (pumpkin) and axles in my '51 Ford Coupe rear end. Bolt in swap. the '54 has finer spline axles so ya have to do both but it is a bolt in deal.
