Took a fastener class when I worked for CAT,Going in I thought it would be a waste of time..it wasnt.Proper torque and fastener support is critical, quality hard washers are your friend.

It runs good due to balance, single stromberg flows 170 CFM,engine flows about 170 CFM..nice work

Nothing in the world takes a beating like a Caterpillar bouncing around on a rock pile or frozen clods. I doubt anyone in the world knows more about fasteners and metallurgy. If you need good hardware spend your money at a Cat dealer.
Cat mostly, or completely stopped using lock washers in favor of hard washers 30 years ago. Reason being, if a lock washer breaks it will soon fall out and leave you with a bolt that is immediately an 1/8 inch or more from being tight.

Proper torque places the fastener in tension, negating the need for mechanical locking hardware.Hard washer insures a steady base for torquing the fastener..anerobic sealants (loctite) is effective as well..between the coffee and donuts this is what I retained..

Been slowly acquiring more bits, the gas tank arrived (finally), picked up a pile of model A brake arms and stuff for building remote linkages. Found a guy in Houston with a bunch of T stuff for sale, so scored a TT brake cross shaft. Weather has broken, so time to get into the garage and start cleaning...then, just maybe...I can procrastinate some more.

  18. Yup! The photo was taken in a warm Spring evening by a Vintage Auto Racing Association (VARA) photog/member Brad Eells a couple of years ago at Buttonwillow Raceway. The event was VARA's "British Extravaganza". VARA has each year been so gracious to give us a "PreWar"/Historic Group race. Despite a well laid out track and good compatible company, it's always difficult to get enough participants with truly vintage "PreWar" cars to attend. For decades the folks from NorCal, with the exception of the late Peter Giddings (and one other) have dained not to bless us with their presence.
    Stay dry Doug!

Is this a B timing cover?
And can I use this with a B distributor to time the A engine? CF7EBC56-A89A-429B-937C-12A144EFBABF.jpeg

Whilst waiting for the B motor to come home I've been mocking this up for the top of it. If anyone has any pointers where to get a choke v-clamp (SR B) from that would help me loads. This has been a long long time in the making! 75412235_10218425347492198_1248107622087786496_n.jpg

jim1932....That engine looks GREAT! I guess it's quite typical to do some contrasting color to make things "pop", but the silver paint on the block, pan, etc. with the aluminum and chrome/ceramic coated parts looks fantastic. It has a rich, sophisticated look to it. Thumbs up!
