When I got my Pontiac I was looking for a 4-door because at the time my kids were 2 and 3.

You ever try to get a kid into a carseat in the back seat of a 2 door? Now imagine trying to do it when your 6’3 and 260lbs haha THAT is why I have a 4-door

When my kids were small my wife decided she HAD to have a minivan. Found a good deal on a couple year old Chrysler rig with auto everything and jumped on it. One of the best cars I've ever owned. No cool factor, but man was it easy with kids and car seats.

  5. Here's a Desoto I sold a friend a couple of years ago. While I liked it, I would rather have had a 2 door... 0519181041b.jpg

I like 4 doors for the low buy-in price, and I've converted a bunch of them into 2 door sedans just like Scotty T's 56 Chev. It's something that can always be done down the line sometime, just like a V8 swap, although I won't crap on anyone for building a 4 door, or a 6 cylinder.

My favorite 4 door customs are the ones that don't try too hard to overcompensate. There are some really great examples around.

This however is a misconception. I can't think of a single American made 40's or 50's car that is longer as a 4 door than it's comparable 2 door sedan counterpart (assuming it has one). Same wheelbase and overall length/dimensions, same interior space. It's just the ratio of front door to quarter panel length that's different.

I've had my 52 Pontiac 4 door since I was 17. It was my daily driver year round for 10 years. Someday I'll rebuild it.

I'm building a 1951 Pontiac 4 door at the moment which will be my next family cruiser. It's getting a 57 Pontiac 347, 3 speed manual.

I know for sure one car in two years. Dodge 53 - 54.
The 4dr sedans have longer wheelbase then the other models.
I dont remember the measurements at hand but the other bodys
    share wheelbase with the Plymouth.

Yes, when I say long car, I was including the 2 and 4 door versions of the same cars, though I tend to prefer the 4 doors.

I´ve had my share of 4drs and I loved all of them. I usually used them as daily drivers. The 55 is my current DD and I´ve put almost 40k miles on it during tha last 4 years. Perfect car for me and good gas milage with its 235/3sp OD.

My car in my avatar and the four door wagon have the same wheel base and are exactly the same length overall! I would have bet money on the wagon being longer than the two door hardtop! But the measuring tape does not lie!

Crazy that some 4doors look a mile long, esp. wagons, when they're the same length as 2 door

Mine, when you have grey hair or none like me, four doors are so much better when you re trying to access the back seat ! Ashley,s March 19 Old Tom 002.JPG

Don't hate me either. My old Sedan Delivery started out as a 4 door. Used a 4 dr body because they had a shorter front door than a 2 dr Sedan....which gave me a longer, more proportionate side panel. BUT I did cut in a rear door...so a 3 door is only one door away from a 4 door;) 324dr.jpg
