Art & Inspiration It ain't a car part but it does the job - What have you used?

  1. Ron added this little lock for the suicide rear doors on the Deuce 4 door before we traded just a small added protection to insure the back doors wouldn't pop open driving down the road.

Just a simple hardware store slide bolt. HRP

Do boat parts count? The steering wheel and switch nameplates came from a mahogany boat.

I was missing two of the cup washers from the trunk hinge bolts on my 47 . So I made them out of 1/2" copper caps. Just drill a hole and it worked great.

  5. In a pinch a large roll of duct tape does also, the fact that the tape is sticky on the side of the roll prevents it from sliding around, great us for old parts. HRP

  7. This reminded me off using a NOS piece of 1966 VW running board stainless on the Ranch Wagon, I cut 3" of ether end and made a cap for the B pillar door post pulls. HRP

When I installed my "spinner" steering wheel in my '37, it didn't have a horn button. I put a marine starter button on the dash to replace it (above and to the left of the glove box door).

Then, there's the timeworn favorite to replace a stripped door handle.

    Horn button replacement

Black plastic sewer pipe cap - Big box hardware store
Black button head screws - Ace Hardware
Universal horn button - Blister pack city

Volvo horn button - installed - Low Res.jpg
Kinda ugly, but it works well. NOTE: Old picture, it now has a gauge panel.

Hose clamps, Zip ties, 100 MPH tape have repaired a few things in a pinch for me, amazing how strong a combination of these can be. Being a Tool & Die Maker/Pattern Maker, my own shop for 36 years allowed to me make things as needed or wanted, It's hard for me to imagine how some of the beautiful cars are built without much for equipment, the guy that makes the scaled down cars, the 50 Merc I saw at back to 50's, he's a real talent.

Sort of like Richard Rawlings and Fast & Loud; the episode where he's selling the Aqua-Car. The perspective buyer starts pulling off all these toilet and plumbing parts; someone must have thought they were good "replacements".

Removed the choke and linkage on my center carb but needed something for the idle screw to push against. I used this $5 scrip token from the Carbon Fuel Co.

Wheelbarrow for a firewall recess. Not my idea, just my application of the idea to get the inner compound corners for the recess when not having an English Wheel.

I remember how I laughed (and laughed) the first time I heard of this then I witnessed it first hand and could not believe how well it works, the key is choosing which one to start with.

Mocking up the rebuild of my '55 pickup, I found the m22 Muncie rockcrusher with Hurst shifter wouldn't quite clear the seat riser. Solution (still a work-in-progress) is a bread pan.

I used a old hospital reach in cooler that had stainless strips and used one for top of hood on a 38 Plymouth coupe. It was tapered at windshield and butted up to mascot. Fit perfect.
