Hot Rods The ALTERED thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by loudbang, Mar 3, 2016.

  1. The first picture, was when Pete Bubuik still owned the truck. He was also part of our group from Vernon, but I didn't know him as well as the other guys.
The bottom picture is of Bugs Garrow, my recently deceased friend. He loved anything to do with speed and acceleration,
I remember him losing a bet to another friend. Back in the 60s, we were at the beer parlour, ( a Canadian thing), having a few tables full of beer, and he took a bet that he could get across the intersection faster than another friend that happened to be a sprinter in high school. The light changed, Bugs smoked the tires, and the sprinter won. Losing didn't matter much, because the bet involved more beer.
He was a lot of fun. RIP
    Bob

  4. That little Fiat still has it's rear fenders. Also, it's running 12" midget Halibrands on the front. Love it!

  6. No, it's the Argee-Sorenson '29 with some borrowed Burkholder parts. That's Don Argee in the seat.

  7. Here Don is getting a serious ass whoopin' from Larry Faust at LIONS. Checking further, I found that the Burkholder Brothers did partner with Argee for a while their T tub altered was being built.

Its Leon Fitzgerald and Pure Heaven II. Look for the flying angel on the side. Pure Heaven had a big block Chevy. Pure Hell had a small block and then the hemi.

Actually, Joe Thomas, Nolan Pritchard and the H was for Henry Harrison who was one of several drivers of various iterations of the Beaver Hunter. Beaver Hunter III was John Force's first nitro burning ride.

You are thinking of the late Gene Beaver--Force always called him Uncle Beavs although I am not sure of the actual relationship. The Beaver, Condit and Force families were always tight in those days.

  30. With driver Dale "The Snail" Emery. Dale was to tall for the cockpit. He had to lean forward to drive it because his head wouldn't fit under the roll bar.
