@54onflr Great look for the top!.........Please explain the work you did to get that changed roofline. Also, looks like you added Chrysler rear fenders. Nice mods, car looks terrific! Ray
Considering the roofline (grafted from a GM product?) and the fender skirts, I'm beginning to think that there's been a great deal of fairly subtle work that's taken place here. Most of it probably won't be noticed at a first or even second glance, but that kind of restraint is what really draws my eye to it.
^^^^^^^I have a ‘49 in the same body style as yours.....a long term keeper.....since 1995! I like it okay, but that more sloped coupe top and quarter window on the OP’s car (likely GM as @ClayMart suggested) is “inspiring”..... edit: on further examination, I am not sure if the OP’s car is a Business Coupe with the 111” wheelbase, or a Club Coupe/Sedan on the 118” wheelbase? Really hard to gauge with the fender change. Ray
I love cars like this one, you know it’s different and much better but you don’t know why. Subtlety and restraint go together so well on this one.
Hey y’all sorry for responding late. Yes lots of changes to this car. It’s a full custom but looks mild! To start off the roof is from a 53 Chevy business coupe with about 2 inches taken out of the width. Used 54 Chevy belt line trim cut down to fit. Door tops are from a 54 Chevy coupe grafted to the Plymouth door tops. Welded up the 2 piece hood and 3piece front fenders. Used stock grill and just deleted signal lights. Also used a 49 Plymouth hood emblem in stead of the 50 Plymouth. Bumpers are stock 50 Plymouth with a 54 Chevy bumper rear guard and brace chopped down and cut to fit license plate. Rear fenders are 52 Chrysler which are about 8 inches longer than the 50 Plymouth. The skirts we’re Chrysler as well but cut the fender well opening out of the 50 Plymouth and made it fit to the Chrysler skirts. Shaved the trunk license plate holder and handle. Replaced with a 40 Plymouth trunk handle. Dash was also modified and added 53 desoto gauges and custom fit a 46 Plymouth center piece waterfall. I hated everything about this car haha The steering wheel is from a 51 ford with custom fitted 42 horn button. I’ll post some more pictures of the build soon have them on another phone. This is one of the reasons I love the H.A.M.B. I'm not a "Custom" fan by any means, but things like this really get me to sit up and notice. Great work.
Added a couple extra photos and what I did to the car. And thanks for the appreciation. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks for getting back with more details of this build. I'd have been lucky to spot maybe 20% of the changes you made. And the simple paint scheme makes no attempt to hide or distract from the modifications. Your efforts were well chosen and do a great job of eliminating all the "lumps & bumps" that these early 50s Mopars tend to have.
