I have built nerf bars by the dozens. They went on the side of our sprint cars. I also built bumpers. They went on the front and back. I built this for the front of my model T. Bolted into the shock mounts. It's on the front, but I wouldn't call it a bumper. A lot of shit sticks out in front of it. It kinda adds a smile to its face.
I have a buddy that’s one on those talented guys. He makes a living building midget and sprint car chassis, bumpers and Nerf bars for race cars. I gave him the measurements and he whipped this up for me in about 45 minutes it’s 3/4” stainless.
I love nerf bars. Originally in the plan for this car I pictured them front and rear When the bumper was set on the car, I knew it was wrong. It just didn't fit the style. They're a style of bumper that's easy to get wrong.
I love the side nerfs on a roadster. They obviously were a roundy round thing and probably would do very little in a real highway accident but they are just right on a roadster.
Lots of Nerfs here for sure! For me they should be not too big / not too small / follow the body contour so they do not need to stick out far from the car. I do think they also look best chromed. That’s it except the owner needs to be happy with them and they should function. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
Marty, where did you get that die? I’m on a project right now and was going to make something that looks just like that die.
When I restored the Car Craft Dream Rod I had to recreate the nerf bars. They are made out of oval tubing bent the hard way
