How many of you fellas have built a kustom grille? Any tube grilles? How bout pull knob grilles? What did you use and how did it turn out? My 53 chev is wanting a new look so let’s see what you have come up with! Thanks

Of all things hot rod or custom in my many years of being in the hobby, all drawer pull grills have, IMHO been the dumbest, the ugliest, the stupidest, the cheapest looking, biggest POS application ever to be employed on on any undeserving car. I urge you strongly not to F- up the front end of your build. Drawer pulls are meant for opening cabinet drawers or cabinet doors and not adorning beautiful rods and customs. they are just uck'n Fugly .
Drawer pull grill would be easy on a piece of flat black perforated steel. I would keep the pulls very smooth and simple.
I for one have never been fond of bar grilles. This is how I made mine. Sorry, don`t have a pic of it in the car. @OG lil E Made to look like a 58 Buick grille.
Here you go, Jim, even though a few of the above posters have nothing positive to say about drawer pull grilles. Funny, one guy's avatar is a rod, and the other is a stock looking Pontiac with wheels. Why is it guys that obviously aren't into customs have to chime into posts like this and bash old time custom trends? Sheeesh..........E

Those are some great examples! I wanted to start this thread for ideas and pictures. Some how people need to give their opinions. Kidcampell71 you are correct it’s all on how well it’s executed. Oh lil E that is a fine example on a car that may have been not typically thought as a kustom! Clean!
Can't talk early customs without taking in to account knob grilles were a big styling cue at one time. Those drawer knobs definitely have a place in the history of custom cars. Besides some of those beloved old customs wouldn't have been the same without them.
Maybe not the change you're looking for; but '54 teeth look great on the '53 bar, and are available re-pop. (I also dig the painted grille bar on this one.)
cabinet pull knobs look great, if you can find a clearance sale on them - retail store prices will cost big time
Well since it was I that came on as strong as I did, I'll tell ya why I bashed old time custom trends. Speaking only for myself, I appreciate ALL cars custom/ rod or what ever. I deeply appreciate every car so lovingly designed and built. Again just for me, pulls cheapen the look of a thoroughly thought out design and build when one knows what they are and that they could have come out of Home Depot, Lowes, or Ace (perhaps) . There might be a couple I've seen that are acceptable but when done by the everyday hobbyist in the driveway, or garage or machine shop, its a long long shot to get them right, that's for sure! Speaking of my 34 as you did and my taste, when I went looking for headlight stands, the few, (damned few), on the market suck big time. So I designed my own, made a wire frame template of them, cut, welded and had chromed them. They have been referred to by many a rod guy as great thinking. BTW I did the same with the tail light brackets. Ingenuity in design IMO is not ready made drawer pulls installed in grills meant for cupboards. Just my opinion and it ain't made a difference as far as I can ascertain, that much I have been able to realize through the years.
I don't think the OP gives 2-shits what 34 Larry or G-man thinks of drawer pull knob grilles, he didn't ask for opinions just if anyone had built one and how it turned out. Mick

I have always wanted a 58 Buick grille but couldn`t get it to fit. Thanks for the reply I priced them at my local lumber yard, he said $3.35 a piece for a hundred. He was surprised when I said O K. He thought I was going to use them for my Kitchen and gave me a break from retail which would of been $5.00. At Menards, they were $5.35. .
Gwad its fun to stir the pot now and then. Like I said there are a few good ones out there that I like, the Ala Kart is my all time favorite rod/kustom ranking right next to Thankfully Dave wasn't a carpenter (stirr, stir) Is it odd I haven't asked, What the %%$# would you do Lar? Don't ask cause I don't care that much for tube grills either. Not that anyone even gives a damn what I like. Which brings on an other topic-------------but I won't go there. Just mess'n with ya guy's. Time to leave the scene of the crime.
