  2. MacKellar #10 grind, Pontiac Super Duty engine.

    There was a cam grinder in Detroit, Lishin, in the 1950's. My neighbor's 51 Fordillac had one. I found the cam grind tag in the glove compartment as the car was blown up and abandoned for nine years. I tried to buy it in '68 to no avail.

    I have two flathead cams still in the box. One Crane and one Mellings. I'll take a picture and post them. The Mellings box is really cool. Came with two feeler gauges wired to the snout.

    Dead thread revival I know, but I figure this may be an interesting addition for any lurkers and archive readers. I'd really like to see an isky 5 cycle lobe profile... IMG_20191018_214808.jpeg

    That's odd, I remember him saying that the fifth cycle was valve overlap.

    I had an Ed Pink 354 blown and injected with a Scott slot in my FED. It had an Isky 7000 T flat tappet in it. Was a good cam. Not much lift around .450 :). Crane had a great SBC stick for M/P cars. Called a "Hi-Low no pop". Around .700 lift roller. Lippy

    Didn't Isky come out with a...........505C Magnum. Gartlits used it.....Ed Pink used it........on and on.

    I'll take a shot - Howard Johannson. Tommy Bigelow was a race driver, but I have NO idea what or where he raced.
    Actually, it was Kenny Bigelow. Ran a 270 GMC /'37 Chev coupe at the lakes, and was killed in '51 in a lakes accident. Iskenderian ground his Chev & GMC cams using the '37 as his test mule. The Isky GMC 1007 LDB grind is a track grind, not suitable for street use. LDB means Long Duration Bigelow ...

    I believe so. The C was a flat tappet I think. The 505T was a roller. Lippy

    Profiling camshafts is something I always liked to do because you learn so much about ramp speed, value overlap, duration,lift and measuring everything in degrees of crankshaft rotation many other things that make one cam work better then another cam.
    I still have binders of each cam I every profiled

    There have been many great books written explaining camshafts and years ago Waddel Wilson's book along with Reed Cams really spelled it all out for me so that it all made sense.

    I lost a bet one time when a friend of mine asked me if I knew how to change the way a cam performed without changing the cam itself?

    Changing the rocker arm ratio was the correct answer.

    of course, there was the awe-inspiring flathead cam, isky's 404--"the constant acceleration cam"!

    It was Isky. He made them for V8's also. This is a car he got a lot of advertising out of. I drove it a couple times.
    We put a Long Bigelow in it for road racing.

    One of the many old timers ive heard say "no cam has 5 cycles, it was just a nice sounding advertisement" was Tom Jobe of the surfers. In the surfers videos on YouTube he talks about camshafts, his friend 'Isky' and the cool names isky used in the early 60's.
