What is the most beautiful looking engine for a hot rod/custom. I would have to go with a nailhead or a flathead. What do you guys like. PICTURES PLEASE.

They are the lowest H.P. per dollar but if you want pure bling i'd say flathead.

  4. I like them all! But a Hemi looks pretty cool to me. 20171014_112152.jpg

Damn! I didn’t even think about that. I like how they look in a hot rod. Don’t think they would look nice in a custom tho.

I'm away from my computer so can't get to my pix, but the nailhead in Tony Nancy's 22JR would have to be right up there on the list.

Of course you'd have to hook up a radiator in a hot rod.

I think Mr. Moriarty's engine is pure sweet candy  but needs to be shown off say in a '27 T or '28/'34 with no hood or hood sides.:) It is like hiding Marilyn Monroe in a house and not showing her off out at dinner/grocery store.:D

My vote for the most beautiful engine goes the the Model A coupe called "Pipe Dreams" owned by Ted - can't remember the last name. Don't remember what the engine was either, but with those headers, it was a mindblower. Don't have a picture either.

  14. For a hot rod, the 2 motors I have always thought were the absolute is the small block chevy that was in McMullen 32 when it was on the cover of Hot Rod in 63
    [IMG]

and the blown Olds in the famous "Little Deuce Coupe" - at one point I think the blower had 6x2's as well instead of the tri power.

As far as a custom I'm partial to a clean dressed small block chevy with lots of carbs like what we dropped into Taboo

  19. Mark,
Not only are you an astute collector,,,,,but very talented in your own right.
I never would have guessed that was under the hood of your avatar.

Man,,,it makes me want a Caddy engine too!

    Now I want a Caddy,,,,a Nailhead,,,an a Y block.
I just rediscovered the old Y blocks not long ago.
Then I remembered them being in a lot of my dads old equipment.

I think the old doctors had a term called,,,(the nostalgia).
It stated it was,,,( a vehement desire to go home ).

Man ,,the HAMB is causing me some serious addiction!

For just flat assed pretty no matter what it is hot rod wise you have to reach out a long ways to top the flathead in Russ Frend's Takeout T with the block smoothed to look like it's porcelain rather than cast iron.

Still my favorite looking engine along with favorite sounding is a well done Y block.
