My one dollar CWC parts bike.
    As near as I can tell it's a 1940.

  5. I've been into cars for over 40 years but always liked old bikes, I now have an Iver Johnson Truss bike it has the average rust an dust off a bike that's been in and old shed for decades, my question is do I do only the necessary things like new tires an upholster the seat, etc. or restore. Some sites I've looked at say do not restore. What's your opinion guys, I trust y'all lead me in the right direction...Thanks in advance, Michael BigO ( pic is NOT my bike but the same year and model).

if there is any original or recoverable original paint it's nearly always it's best to leave it be, but can't say without pics.

BigO: if it were me, I would clean up all parts, and try to bring back any original paint; then only fix what is needed to make her safe and runnable.

Loaded up this bunch today for our bud Fleetwood Ryan ... Includes a '57 girl's Tiger 3 speed, a 24'' girl's Wasp with 90% paint, an Iver-Johnson, a beehive springer J.C. Higgins, a Goodyear, and several partial Schwinn donors. Ryan is a master when it comes to preserving them. $25 Schwinn (World ?) with drum brakes fresh from a garage sale. I can't remember ever riding a Schwinn that was as much fun as this one.

Just a collector of old stuff. My dad gets credit for this find. 1954 Schwinn Spitfire. 26" boys/men's bike all original. I believe given the weather checking that the tires may even be original not sure. Grips, pedals and seat are in unbelievable condition for a boys bike of this age. Sold my '39 Colson Tandem the other day and took this cool custom 40's Gamble's Hiawatha as partial trade. Custom wooden "tank" and rack.
    Two speed rear hub.
Always wanted a woody lol. Great rider.

Here’s the girls bike we restored. Kept original paint. Chrome was Covered in rust. S.O.S pads and half a days work on each. Yellow is a 71 and the green a 3 speed 74. They ride them all over and we ride them at the rod run in pigeon forge to avoid the traffic. Haul them in the back of the 71 Cheyenne. I ride my dads 71 John Deere 3 speed. 4687E247-62C5-4776-A00C-D98B244B67A5.jpeg

20191229_123038.jpg Finally dug out my 1961 Schwinn Varsity. Owned since new. I have the receipt somewhere, but as I recall it was $67 out the door. Put center pull brakes on it. For quite a while I had the only 10 speed in the neighborhood. It's all original. Some years ago I saw it's twin at the Smithsonian. Last time I heard my wife commenting about that old bike in the basement....
