Drilled vs. non drilled 32 ford axle. Any performance differences? Thanks

Any time you have to ask the opinions of others because you are undecided the answer is NO. This time no holes.

  8. Depends on the style of car really, just stick some quarters on there where you think you may want a hole then walk away from it for about 30ft, do an about face and if it hits you then do it, if first impression is nope then don't do it.

Wow tough crowd. I have no intention myself to drill an axle. The question was asked on another forum what the best axle for a model A build was. A 4” dropped drilled or non drilled. I replied my favorite was a 32 heavy with no hole. And also said drilled axles flex more then a solid axle. I was then told their is no difference between drilled and non drilled. But the looks and a little lighter. So figured I’d ask this forum what they thought. And wow guys did you forget why you come to these forums?? To get away from the day to day stresses. Not add to them. I’m almost sorry I asked.

Holes, but keep then a hole diameter apart and you still have a strong enough axel.

  17. You're in the wrong place if you didn't want the truth, no body said anything to cause you stress, you ask a question and the people answered. No harm no foul . BigO

Prefer the no hole myself. Seems like it would compromise the strength of the axle. Just my opinion though.

I am all about the Truth. I have no stress seems the people answering me were stressed though. Calm down let’s have fun.

  20. BigO, is plain spoken and calls them as he see's them, ask a question and the answers will be varied on the hamb ,no one is stressed just matter of fact.

I think it depends on the build, Rocky's coupe is a ideal example of a car that looks just right with a drilled axle, it's a hiboy, it's chopped and it screams HOT ROD, on the other hand my old beater is a full fendered old car and with the front splash apron the axle is not a focal point, so it would be a moot point to drill my axle. In Texas, we always say "drill."

  22. My standard answer:
If you're not sure which way to go, only drill halfway, then stand back and cover one eye, then.................

^^^^ There's your answer. Read the replies, look at pics and go with your gut. It's really an aesthetic deal. Unless you drill all the holes so close together that it essentially becomes a long "slot" where fracturing could occur between the holes.
Also, don't let the sarcasm here get you. There's a lot of (mostly) good natured joking around here that comes with a plethora of knowledge. Thick skin helps.

  29. You see how "right" holes look on this one or that one when built with some attitude. 48270329-9494-489B-B344-30F47EC1BC74_zpsrv741tau.jpg 10993091_942633859080071_6606355771179638702_n.jpg 20190531_164537.jpg
