Everything I have read says the 51 headlight buckets are different than the 49-50 ones because of how the 51 cast headlight ring mounts to the bucket. The 51 cast ring has a slot inside it for a tab to go in. I cannot find a photo showing a difference and my 51 came with the wrong headlight buckets. If anyone has photos/ info/ part numbers for 1951 mercury headlight buckets, it would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Does you Merc still have the protruding lower lip on the grill surround that 51's have to match the hood emblem or is it flush with the hood? I had to swap a 49/50 nose on mine after a wreck. Mine got frenched lights (53 Merc) welded on later anyhow.
I don't know the part number and don't have a Hollander that goes back that far but I think a couple of the guys might.

Yes, I still have the factory surround for the 51 that protrudes further.

Someone probably changed them or maybe changed the fenders in one of it's past lives.

I have both a 50 and 51 in the garage. These are from the 51 Mercury.

These pics are from the 50 Mercury.
Hope this helps. I don’t have the different rings, someone took those
before I got the cars. Both cars arrived stock with no apparent modifications.

Notice the 1950 has flanges on the sides, where the 51 does not.
Let me know if you need more pictures.
