a couple weeks ago i am in the part store and the guy at the counter next to me is discussing making an alteration to his drive shaft with the parts guy. "yeah, this is the last thing i need to get it back on the road" "ok should be done in a couple days, i will call you when it is ready" "cool" he grabs his receipt and walks out. i turned to the counter guy "hey Rick, what's he working on?" "an old hot rod," he smiles "right up your alley" at that point the door opens and the hot rod guy walks back up to the counter "who owns the old G.M.C.?" i looked up and he looks at me "you?" "yep" "cool truck" "thanks! Rick says your working on a hot rod" "yes, a 31 buick 3w coupe" "really? i have one too" "a 31 buick? what body style" "a 3w coupe" "get the %&^@# out a here. really?" we exchanged numbers promising to check the cars out and he leaves. today he brought the car over to show me and see my car. last registered in '67. story is Dick Moroso had something to do with the car. built on a chevy frame and has a 1964 396 big block. i checked.......no numbers on the motor. pretty damn cool.

Very cool! Neat to see an "off-brand" car that was rodded back in the day, and if it really has ties to Moroso that's neat too. I even like the Keystone Kustomags, although they'd be neater without the new radial T/As, but otherwise looks truly untouched and preserved. I wonder if it was ever finish painted?
Neat. I'd leave the fenders on, and get it as low as practical, say 6" ride height at the bottom of the frame. It's a classy car, so I'd keep it that way. Make it a Zoot-suiter with a lot of simple, but elegant art deco details / finishes. Gary
Very cool! O.k. What's the rod with the large wing nut on the drivers side? And is that a " golf club " door on the passenger side? Pretty fancy for a rod
the rod with the wig nut is the bracket for the driver side spare tire. and yes that is a golf club door.
Just goes to show it pays to ask folks about old cars. Amazing engineering ideas before advent of "bolt on " hot rod suspension parts. Well done.
Great Story, what are the odds on that deal ? We have a gentleman here in the Northwoods w/ a 34 Buick sedan all done up, outstanding car ! Class and Style !
he said he wants to keep it just like it is for now, even the gun rack. he said it was there when he got it. motor sounded healthy.
I have a friend that had one of those. He maintained that they were called "doctor coupes" and that the little door was for the little black bag that all doctors had and used on house calls. It makes some sense as I don't think the car is wide enough for a bag of golf clubs. Maybe a golfer on here might speculate on the width.
@tb33anda3rd I sure like your choice of Rolling Stock... Does he have any pics from its prior Hotrod elegance? But it is a Survivor, with lots of potential...I hope you get to assist bringing it back to 64... Big Cars Were a Thing of Presence...lots of well to fill...
I don't know if he has any pictures of it. the next time I see him I will ask. what was the first year for the keystones?
