Ok, if you seen my last post you know the story of my 51 overheating, got her all cleaned up and put back together, I was going to a car show this weekend and water pump started spraying coolant all over, no overheating this time "whew". Its the 2nd pump in 4 months from napa. It has the adapter plate between pump and block, I put it together like this (block - silicone gasket maker - blue gasket material - silicone gasket maker - adapter plate - silicone gasket maker - blue gasket material - silicone gasket maker - water pump) Am I overkilling it somewhere??? Fan belt is 5/8" wasn't over tight.......any ideas. Engine is a 235 Block stamp goes like this CON 3 F189 F619A 3764476 if I'm reading correctly block was used 1958-1962, this one was built Jun 18 1959 originally was on a 3 speed but she has a power glide now. Any help on this would be awesome!!!
Not sure but it looks like you have an early 235 water pump and adapter and a later 235 block. The later 235s had a different combo for balancer and pump pulley diameter. Looks to me like part of the problem is that the pump is being spun way too fast.
About half way down in this article he speaks to the balancer size. Then at the bottom gives some dimensions. It may be helpful for you. http://chev235guy.blogspot.com/search/label/Water Pump Relocation Adapter
