So this one's been in our shop longer than I've been alive. My dad didn't put it together and dosn't remember where he got it. But he says once a guy came through the shop and (friendly-like) cussed him out because he had the spare tire rim for "unknown collectable" car welded to the bottom of a vise stand. Well I'm OCD enough that I wouldn't mind surgically disecting the thing and instead using some other random chunk of steel we have in the corner for the stand, if I could determine if it was actually worth it. So any thoughts? The holes in the sides look original and unique. It measures 19" across at the widest, 2 5/8" wide, 6 bolt pattern aprox. 5 1/2" hole to hole.
Cool thanks! More information than I ever got blindly googling! I understand the holes now: split rim. But what's with the bracket opposite from the valve stem hole?
Early Chevy "disk wheel", I've got one just like it. I don't know if it's worth cutting apart, but I do believe these were used on a lot of speedsters and pre-war builds to replace wood spoke wheels.
That's where you stick the tire iron in when you remove the lock ring. The car came with 2 of them IIRC
Well even if it dosn't get "saved," I think It'll get repurposed for something better than our old Rigid pipe vise....
Looks like these were also called "Jaxon" wheels and they were an accessory to the wood spoke wheels(?). The tire had an inner band that the retaining bolts clamped onto.
