I went on several Airstream caravans as a kid, 1956-1969. They were amazing. Wally Byam trailer #00. I still have my Wally Byam beret! Grandfather #2418 (How I still remember I don't know). He towed with his 52 Packard, then 59 Imperial, then 64 New Yorker. I remember one Rally Phillis Diller was there before she was famous, dark hair. Funny as could be...racey for a kid though!

  20. This photo reminds me of a time when damn few people had four wheel drive trucks and SUV's hadn't been thought of yet. You either bought snow tires or put chains on or in some cases if it was bad enough you did both!

The Boston Terrier doesn't look too good either.

I found out what that building is... it's the WWI Douaumont ossuary near Verdun, France.[IMG]

If that year Vette was as bad as the ‘65 I had 365 hp with posi-traction, it certainly needs those snow tires! Tried mine once in snow (~ 5 in.), didn’t want to move forward and rear-end would just walk one way or the other.

  25. I lived in Calgary Alberta Canada for years. I put STUDDED snow tires front and rear on my almost 3 ton 1959 Cadillac series 75 limousine. She would go anywhere you wanted it too. Tha salt they put on the roads sure rusted the old girl though!
Most folks only put snow tires on the rear. They would have 2 extra rims and just unbolt the rear wheels every spring and again at winter.

On FRONT? was that thing 4 wheel drive?

  27. Nope. But old flopper when the front wheels are looking for "bite" in ice n snow to steer where you want, a lotta weight, lugs on snow tires and best of all the studs grabbing the ice make it almost summer driving! Takes all the slip n slide away.

My '61 Vette was not great with snow tires, but my '55 Chev 2dr sedan with 396/425 4 speed was a lot worse in any snow !
