Is there any info on the first shot of the great looking super? If I had to be guess on the second shot of Parnelli Jones I would say this might be Lincoln Speedway (PA) in 1964. Parnelli drove the Howard Linne Offy several times and won more often than he lost. I say 1964 because that looks like Bob Wente's #1 midget in the background and he was the defending USAC champ that year. And the third shot looks to be at Darlington but the driver doesn't look familiar at all. Thanks for posting the photos, Rootie!
The gold colored roadster was owned and built by longtime Denver/central states racer Ody Fellows. The story goes that in the early 60s he moved to SoCal for a while and worked for the likes of Dean Moon, Carrol Shelby, Don Edmunds among others. Its said that he bought the former Brown Motors upright champ car to race at Pikes Peak but ended up using it to build the short track roadster, though I really don't know how accurate that all is. Yes that is Darlington, 1956 and the driver is one Ken Gottschalk of whom I know little.
This picture has been here before, but it always cracks me up. An old guy, driving a Vette that looks like it hasn't been waxed in years, with snow tires!!
I'm sure he needed snow tires where he lived and at that time corvettes weren't worth that much. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
It was probably on this tour. The Wally Byam Caravan Club. https://www.airstream.com/blog/airstreamers-around-world/
Thanks Loudbang for bringing back a memory. My family lived in Law Vegas in late fifties and very early sixties. We would go to the pool at the Desert Inn and see Jayne Mansfield, Mickey Hargitay (her bodybuilder husband) their kids and little dogs poolside. Jayne was quite a sight in a bikini! She was always very polite and friendly with tourists and fans. About 3 kids as I recall, but too soon for Mariska Hargitay. 1 more car I promise, Rex Winter Dry n windy Lubbock TX
First shot is Ody Fellows, 2019 Colorado Motor Sports HOF inductee in the roadster sprint car he constructed. The car was destroyed in it's initial race at Norton, KS
