Buddy of mine has a 49 F-1 that's complete but the old stock bench seat sits like ..........a 70 year old truck!! I see a lot of you fellas using the Caravan seat(40') and wonder if the F-1 would be a candidate. Thanx 6sally6
I just stuck a tape measure in my 46 the other day. The bottom, part you sit on should be about 48 inches for that truck. Back rest part can be several inches more. So if you were saying 40 inches, that could be a little narrow in an F1.......maybe.
Why not rebuild the the old seat? I did .....repaired the springs, added padding and a new vinyl cover. All I can say is Wow! Super Comfortable. A modern 3rd row seat is more like a church pew. The old seat rebuilt properly can be very comfortable. I used the Cartouch kit from Macs. I was very happy with it.
3rd seats from Astro vans (Safari vans) work great are very comfy, seat back is thin, helps with legroom, seat back folds flat onto cushion for access to behind seat,..here's one in a 55 Chev p.u.
A lot of the newer van seats also have the seat back recline function so it makes them more comfortable Seat belts installed already if you want them etc. If you find a high end model you can get leather as well! Real cheap easy solution. Stock rebuilt tear would be my first choice But upholstery guys up here charge $$$ for quality work.
A friend of mine put a Caravan seat in his 29 pickup and even with the upholstering it's not comfortable, it's hard after some some time.
Many of the "mini" truck seats are of a tube frame structure work well in older pickups. I used a Mazda B2200 seat in my 37' Dodge. - EM
