I am looking for an auto shifter that does not have to use the cable and push button on the shift knob. I have a special knob I want to use that does not have a button. I see them on some hot rods on shows. Mine is an old Ford truck and I want to use the long shifter sticking up in full view. Any suggestions?
Gonna have to release it somehow. I made one using the factory e-brake handle. Take a floor shifter, mount to the trans, remove the handle, use the release mechanism of the e-brake handle to release the shift mechanism I used a dash mounted auto shifter from a motorhome and mounted to my trans tail shaft like the store bought ones do. Then figured out the shift arm length It took some work but only cost about $10 to build
My e-brake handle had the center push button you said you didn’t want to use but you could easily modify the other type Like this one
I think partssaloon is correct. If memory serves me well the Gennie lever was moved to the left to unlock when in park so that should work for your installation.
then there's this one...it will do what you want but I don't recommend it. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-80775/overview/
Hurst Indy shifter. Ran one in the Pusher. looks like an old 3 speed conversion shifter and you can stick any knob you want on it.
I would keep the lock out in place for safety concerns. It's only a thumb push for a second.. When my little brother was playing around in our Ranch Wagon, the twit accidentally bumped the gear selector on the steering column and the car began rolling backwards out of the driveway. He thought that he would be Super Boy and jumped out of the car and ran to the rear of it to stop it from rolling. Well, he became a speed bump and was taken to the hospital. He was ok and we still tease him today about tread marks on his clothing. LUCKY!! Anyway, almost all auto trans shifters have a lock out for this purpose and I wouldn't take it away.
Thanks guys. Looks like the Gennie shifter may fit my bill. I can make the shifter rod and put any knob I want on it.
