The modular idea maybe right because I had to machine the ports to accept an insert that would hold the locating rings from the stock intake like I said before I put a good amount of effort into this setup but if i can't get it to run good I might just go with the offy and the rochesters

Here are some more Harper 3X2 pictures. Not mine just posting the pictures for all to see.

That's SOME linkage geometry there...let alone splitting the throttle shafts in those Strombergs!
Not 'new' to it, as I had years of Porsche, and split carburetor shafts were the manner in which Solex 2 bbl carbs were synced. Still, the practice of doing it is unusual, so the curious onlookers at the drags, etc., would be sure to ask about it...

What do you guys mean by "splitting the throttle shafts"?

The throttle shaft on each carb was cut in the middle so each 1/2 of the 2 bbl worked independently. One side of each hooked together made the primaries the other side was the secondaries that came on progressively. This evened out fuel delivery on inline engines rather than using a center carb in the middle of the engine as primaries and carbs one the ends as secondaries. Each carb fed an intake port and a large runner was not needed, just the small tube to even out the vacuum. The other choice is all 3 all the time, not really the best street choice.

I see my last post here was about 1 1/2 years ago, but today I got a package in the mail from an old high school buddy. Old- we graduated in 1963. In the package was a Harper 3X2 set up with 3 Ford carbs. I haven't checked it out closely but at least one carb has a split shaft. Not all linkage is there but the most critical piece on the center carb is there. I'll get a better look at it tomorrow and try and post some pictures. My friend said it is for a 270 GMC and that is why he sent it to me. This is only the 3rd one of these I have actually handled. I'd love to get it on my pickup.

Yep, Old Harper, good stuff! I'd like to go to that store and get the rest of the linkage. It is pretty complicated but the original pieces were very well made. Another guy I know is making his own and doing a pretty good job.

Here are some pictures of the one I have. The main linkage that hooks the gas pedal from the car is different. It only links to one side of the carbs and there is no set screw for the idle adjustment. It connects to the outside so it couldn't run the split shafts as the inside set has the accelerator pumps. I did find the middle carb linkage that allow all three to work together. It was loose in the box. So I do have most of what I need to copy but will have to build and modify the middle part. Compare to the set in the post a few back.

Thanks Gary, the first picture looks like mine. The second setup is more involved at the middle carb. That is where all the magic lives.
