My son picked up this 60' Ford Ranchero about 3 months ago and surprised me. Looks like a restore was done some time ago. Was converted to a V8 Ford 260ci and a C4 with early Falcon V8 suspension. I did some research and looks like it has changed hands a few times. Needless to say, it needs alot of work. It's pretty clean, just alot of little stuff. I already rebuilt the front end and brakes, it had nasty bump steer. Drives pretty good now for a 59 year old. I only have a few pics right now, but will take more. I will post up dates as time permits and my broken body lets me work on it.
I'm envious. Year's ago I had a 61 Ranchero. Yours look great. These are just the perfect size for running errands around town while playing around with old cars. Much classier than the little Japanese trucks. Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
So like I said, I rebuilt the complete front end. Removed 63-64 Falcon components. New upper, lower control arms, spring saddles, steering linkage and strut rod bushings. Used new parts for 65 falcon v8, not (Mustang) and kept old 6 cylinder steering box. Drives way better now. Stays in it's own lane.
Well in my feeble attempt to get my windows to roll up straight, I failed. I replaced the rollers and they seem to work fine until they get right before the top. Window seems to be cock eyed (not straight).
Well, after rebuilding front suspension, complete brake job, new drums, wheel cylinders, bearings, seals, shoes and hardware it still pulls right when braking. Just can't figure it out. With my recent health issues it is forcing me to take a step back and probably put it up for sale in classifieds.
Sorry, forgot to mention new tires and switched also just to make sure. Drives down the road just fine until you have to apply brakes. If you need to panic stop it can jerk the wheel out of your hand if your not ready for it. When the brakes are cold it's not as bad.
So I decided to go through the brake system again piece by piece. When I did the brakes before the rear brakes had plenty of lining and everything was dry. So I did front brakes only, but replaced everthing on the front. Low and behold I took the rear brakes apart to check the wheel cylinders and the left rear was rusty and frozen. I replaced everything for the rear and solved the issue. She brakes like a drum brake car should now.
