I got a little record player when I was about seven or eight years old for my birthday but nothing to play on it so my mom let me go into my brothers closet and dig through his stack of 45's, I remember "Hot Rod Lincoln" by Charlie Ryan was right on top, my brother was fifteen years older and left them when he went into the Marines, I think I wore it out.

    Since this thread comes along every year or so, I thought I would go a bit more obscure and throw in one from the Red Rocker;

She's American made, you know what I mean?
Red on black, she's a street machine.
Set's ten inches off the ground with a custom plate
    That says I-E-A-T Z28
...My 6.6 gets a little too heavy
For a "Big Balls" Ford or a 350 Chevy
    "Trans Am "

    Jan and Dean--- Hot Stocker.

It's got your 283 and 57 Chevy in the lyrics.

She’s six years old but don’t you knock her
'Cause at the drags she’s the hottest stocker
Looks pretty square at first inspection
But she really scrams with fuel injection

She places every week number one in her class
With a 283 that runs on gas
When the flag is dropped you know she always squeals
Those race master slicks on big mag wheel

Hot Stocker sure is clean now
Wouldn’t trade her for a limousine now
Hot Stocker with her bang shift hydro
Eats 'em up left and right out of the hole

Her locked rear end really makes her hustle
And that V8 mill's got a lot of muscle
    A quarter mile ET 10.9
That '57 Chevy is nothing but fine

Hot Stocker sure is clean now
Wouldn’t trade her for a limousine now
Hot Socker with her bang shift hydro
Eats 'em up left and right out of the hole

Her locked rear end really makes her hustle
And that V8 mill's got a lot of muscle
    A quarter-mile ET 10.9

    Hello
Having been involved in hot rodding and drag racing back in 1957-60, there were a few songs that we liked. What ever was easy to sing while cruising around with a bunch of teens (guys or girls) made it all the more fun. Our voices were changing and the sounds came out rather funny. But, trying to remember the words were the most fun. We did not all sound like James Darren or Frankie Avalon...

It wasn't always listening to mood music on dates, but fun music on cruises and road trips. So, as we learned to get along in the late 1967-69 era, the whole USA was going through some troubled times. My wife and I decided to hang out together adapting to those troubling times. Building a relationship with good old rock and roll tunes in our low cost apartment isolated us from the troubling world.

There were some rock and roll songs that just hit home for an old (20 something) hot rodder/drag racer remembering those great early 1959-60 drag racing days at Lions Dragstrip. It seemed like a whole generation ago, as we were growing up together.

Steve Miller's "Living in the USA" last 4:00 minute mark...

    at 4:00..."Howard Cam Special...."
