And then the side mounts for the Rod Tops top.

The side mounts for the top basically clamp down on the body like a large flat top 1/2" diameter bolt with a block under the lip of the body and once in the proper orientation for the removable top attachment posts need to be really tight to avoid turning when installing or removing the top posts.

I wasn't happy with the need to do that because of the damage that would do to the paint.
So, another one of those time consuming little details.

Set posts in place lightly and then drill through the inside flat metal ( I installed as part of the body support structure it's 1/8" ) that will be under the upholstery panel and into the 1/2" diameter post and then thread the post for a countersunk 10/32" machine screw to anchor the post and keep it from turning.

Then snug the post lightly and double nut.
In the end, when I get it done :D no paint damage and secure top mount posts....

And guys wonder why this build takes so long :D

So, originally Rod Tops had made tapered metal spacers to go under the side mount posts.

As I mentioned previously I felt that would damage the paint.

So once I drilled and tapped the posts for the 10-32 anchoring machine screws I realized that they were now going to be solidly located enough to replace those tapered metal spacers.

I made up a couple of Teflon plastic spacers and now all I need is a nylock nut to snug up under the spacer blocks.

    Another thing done ✅

I’m still planning to put it into the trailer to haul it out to the shop for inspection so with that in mind I installed the seats and belts which I can remove to do the rest of the interior through the winter.

I put down a layer of 1/16” thick rubber under them first. No room for anything else. :D

I have never been able to follow such a skillful build in so much detail. Thank you for letting us see how it is done. Watching as you worked out the issues has been interesting and educational. Fun too! You are too close now.

    Engine oil dipstick figured out.
1/4” NPT fitting on the tube in the block and a little stainless custom fabricated bracket drilled and tapped into the header flange to mount it.

Like the transmission dipstick it’s a Lokar anchor tight locking midnight black model.

They’re 3/8” thick and I drilled and tapped for the two 1/4” polished stainless button head bolts.

I decided that I’m going to turn the car around so that the exhaust pipes face the shop door and I want to put it back up on the stands to put fluids in and then get it running.

I figure that I’ll have an easier time looking underneath to see if anything leaks.

Having the rear tires on sitting on the stands doesn’t seem like a good idea so I made a couple more stands for a pair of my Jack stands to go under the rear axle.

That along with a couple of saddles for the top of the Jack stands which I’ll line with rubber to protect the paint on the quick change.

What's on the back wall of the cab, behind the seats? Is that bed liner?

No, that’s a 1/8” ABS plastic panel that’s the same as the rest of the panels I made for my interior earlier on in the build.

It will be covered with upholstery vinyl like the seats when I get to stitching the rest of the interior.

Lol you can tell what a rush you’re in when you build fixtures to hold the car for what will likely be a one time event.

Though to be fair you’re in Canada in October. Not like you’ve got 6 more months of cruising weather left.

    Looks good :)

I built them because I thought it was a good idea and because I can :D

Actually I did think about possible future use of the stands and because I don’t own a hoist I thought that I’d probably use them again at some point in the future for say rear brake maintenance or something like that. :D

Cruising weather is at least 6 or 7 months away now so there’s no panic that’s for sure.

I actually love my winter time shop time with the heater heating and the tunes playing.

This winter the sewing machine will get a workout although the interior is pretty small :D

I was under a car once that slid off of a stack of wood blocks. I can appreciate the safety aspect of your stands. Usually you don't get a second chance at these things.

I had my wife help me with rolling it outside to turn around and I couldn’t help but take a few pictures while we were at it. :D:cool:

Man they are so much cooler on the ground and in the driveway.

It’s literally the only thing that’s keeping me fighting with mine the last few months. It’s been two years since I’ve even been able to push it outside and I want to before it’s snowing this year. Feels like borrowed time for sure.

    Rpu looks great :)

So, this morning I went out intending to get to work. :D

Instead I ended up sitting in the driver seat for about a half hour before I set it back up on the stands.

First I put rubber lining in the jack stand cradles and got it put up on the stands ready for the next step the rest of the fluids and then fire in the hole! :D

I have to finish modifying my distributor wrench so I can get at the distributor hold down.

I also changed my mind on the caps for my wheels and ordered a set of 42 Ford style caps from Summit.

    Woohoo!
I can't tell you how much time I've spent behind the wheel of mine. Well, that's a lie, I don't really have a wheel... ...or column... ...or...
..but that doesn't matter. I think I've put about 10,000 miles on the thing.

    You're getting close

Lying there thinking about what else I was planning to do it came to me.

The front radiator support rods are only held in to slotted holes and rely on the nuts and washers to stay in place.

Not likely that they’d pop out of place however if they did the results would not be pretty.

So I made a couple little stainless steel hook like washers to prevent that from happening :D:cool:
