Great shots @loudbang I especially like the Midwest Auto Parts Corvette and I wish that I could see the one on the other side of it too.

Jason, the 62 Midwest car is of course another of those cars I wish I could stumble on under a tarp. This picture I believe is 1967. It was owned by Ron Reader and much of the car was built by Butch Elkins. You can see both names on the hardtop. It was driven occasionally by Butch but I believe mainly by Al Maynard. When I showed my black 62 at Autorama a number of years ago, Al Maynard was at the table where you check in and he came and talked to me and was surprised I knew about him and this 62. He sadly passed away a couple of years later. I talked to Ron Reader on the car and of course it had a small block but Ron told me Butch set it up with an early Watts link on the rear differential. Of course it had a four speed. In my last conversation with Ron, he told me the car was pretty quick but had a tendency to turn left on the big end when they had 25% setback. He told me it was a handful to drive and I believe that led to retirement after 67. If it ran in 68 or 69 with 25% it would have to run in altered.

I saw a couple of old Vettes run with 25% and they never seemed to run all that well through the full quarter mile. That being said I only saw a limited number of passes of them so they may have run well when I wasn't looking.

Whatever I still really like the car. Here is a black and white photo I have had for years-cool car. 1173245_orig (2).png

By the way I am trying to figure out the solid axle Vette next to the Midwest 62. It is red with a black top and it seems familiar but I cannot seem to place it.

    Jim,

My best guess of how to identify it would be in the old Drag News from that time. There is lots of great information and some pictures in those.

No apologies needed Tim, that black Corvette is one sexy car from that angle.
One of my fondest memories from my childhood was riding in a black 62 that belonged to the son of my moms' friend, first ride in a fast car, I thought it was the coolest car.
Then one day the prominent local timber baron was showing off his new split window and I forgot all about the 62, it took many years to really appreciate again the lines of those earlier cars.

Jason the Granny Goose is still around and resides in Ohio I believe.

Question for anyone that may know the answer. I am wondering if the same Coles owned the 61 Vette Cole/Cole 270 hp and the Cole & Cole 56/57?

Jason the red car behind the blue Midwest car is not something I need to know but I believe this track is Tri City in Michigan and I believe I have seen the car before, it is just I cannot remember the details. I will still sleep tonight if I do not know the answer but thought if it rang a bell with anyone with the wording on the hardtop then it would keep me from wasting anymore time thinking about it. Thanks Jim.

As an afterthought I like the stance on both versions of Granny Goose although I may be more partial to the upstance-I think.

El, I thing that greenish. 59ish Corvette is at Dover Dragstrip. I think I remember that car and the paint job with the blueish coves (a lot of ish here) I definitely remember that concession stand. Circa 1964, spent a lot of time there.
